San Stephanos (NE)
Village festival 27th July this year, usually 1st August.
Behind the church at the back of the village. We will definitely be there.
I'll be either super fit or totally knackered. We get back from Alikos on the 22nd after 5 days of dancing, then Lafki festival 25th and 26th.
Still we are only here once.

Hi we have never been to a festival, hope you don't mind me asking a few question as we are hoping to catch one this year.

Is anyone welcome?

What time do they start usually?

Do you buy food and wine etc at stalls?

We are staying in Pelekito for a couple of weeks late July early August, are the dates on the front page relevant for this year for Loutses, St Spirydon and Kassiopi?

Sorry to sound a bit dumb, would not like to offene anyone by doing the wrong thing.

Cheers.

The only way you could offend anyone would be by not being there.
Grab yourselves a table and some chairs, usually start from about 8pm till late, yes food and drink provided from either stalls or the local bar/tavern (won't let me put an a on the end of tavern). If stalls, you have to buy a ticket from one place telling them what you want, there'll be a list of prices nearby, then take said ticket to the relevant stall for your goodies.
Enjoy the fun, try a dance, all are welcome.

Just back from Alikos, (its down near Lefkimi) shallow sandy beach with warm sea. Not much there to do except chill in an old fashioned way, two tavernas one at each end of the beach, with a few holiday apartments, studios and rooms, and that's about it.
Our teachers, musicians and pupils were scattered around in various locations, but all seemed pleased.
The seminar consisted of 2 to 3 hours teaching in the morning, then another 2 hours from 6pm, followed by anything up to 5 hours free dance after dinner, in other words some fools hardly went to bed but made up for it by sleeping during the day.
Most of the group have now moved on to Macedonia to finish the seminar.
We were a very mixed bunch with attendees from as far afield as Australia and USA, France, and Belgium, one Russian, one Cypriot, one Swiss and three English.
Happy days, I hope they repeat for next year, and that I'm fit enough to attend.
By the way, as well as all that, we attended two panigieri, one in Benitses and the other the other side of Kavos. We preferred the latter, Benitses was just off the main drag, so parking was a lunatic asylum, but well attended for all that.

There's a lot of secret car parking places in Benitses...makes it easy even when Ag. Marina.

Did you go to the taverna nearest the wetlands sanctuary? It looks closed but she usually has eggs from her chickens and delicious chips!

What was your seminar about? Did you use the beautiful lecture theatre at the salt flats, or, even better, the open air one...with flamingoes strutting their stuff in the distance - magic?

Hi Jan, the seminar was for traditional Greek dance, this year was focussed on Cretan, Pontic, Macedonian, Corfu, as well as a couple from the Agean islands while in Corfu, the programme then varies when the participants arrive in Macedonia for the second week.
Some of the lessons are with live music as is the evening party.
We were based in the taverna nearest the harbour, this year the food was very good in all respects. On our last night, Monday, not only did they cope with our 55 members (teachers, musicians and pupils) but the word was out locally and they had 25 or 30 others out on the beachside to feed. Hell of a night as you might imagine.
This was the 34th seminar there organised by the same team. Although some years have been missed, other years have had 2 or 3 seminars in one year. It is never advertised other than word of mouth.

Posters have just gone up for a "BEACH PARTY" on Avlaki beach 1st August, they list, music, dancing, food and drink.
I guess it would be located at the far end of the beach, but if you turn up it will be easy to find.
