Anyone know the best way to get from Corfu to Italy or Florence with the least palaver? (No car involved, just me).
Thank you! |

I would say Corfu to Rome with Easyjet or Blu-Express then a nice train ride.

Ryanair to Milan would be closer, then by train. The Italian rail network is excellent and pretty reasonably priced. Even First Class is not too expensive, which we did from Naples to Orvieto, via Rome.

Train tickets can be booked via Trenilia or Eurostar.

On the map it looks like Florence is halfway between Rome and Milan. Surely it has to be quicker to fly from Corfu to Rome and go north on the train? Or are trains a lot quicker Milan-Florence than Rome-Florence?

Train journey time looks to be about the same.
Flight time wouldn't be vastly different, so I'd go with the cheapest flight. |

I'd get the boat and then train- also check as there used to be a direct Florence Corfu flight in high season

It does David, I always loved to travel by train for such journey in fact I mostly arrange my trips in such a way that I go to destinations by train and return by air, because returning back part sometimes depresses me and I want to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Depending on what route you take, it may be better to travel first class. Not a great deal of difference in price (like it would be in the UK), and you are guaranteed a decent seat. Otherwise, it can be a bit like a cattle train.
We travelled from Sorrento via Naples to Rome and then onward to Orvieto. Glad we paid the extra for some comfort. |

I'd get the boat to Ancona and then go by train- not too far, probably have to change in Bologna.

First Class is always charming, or else travel could turn easily in to bad dream. I believe that whatever is the adventure there should be a certain degree of comfort which keeps the motivation high.

I know what you mean Alexpete80 but I always do the reverse knowing the money I have saved can be spent on more interesting things on arrival!
Travelling 4th class across the Sudan for 28 hours many years ago though was an experience!
