I would agree with Bruce that you need to check that the airline scales are zeroed correctly. I have been at the Corfu check-in three times this year seeing family members off and each time the scales did not start at zero. This was not a real issue on any occasion for us as the cases were well below the 20Kg limit but if you are running close...

David1 you are correct - scales are always wrong - I remember watching the easyjet reality show where one of the check in staff weighed her footwear, the outcome - yes same pair of shoes different scales - totally different weights!!! Wierd or could it be the scales are all to pot - I certainly agree they never favour the holidaymakers!!!

Do I detect in some of the posts just the tiniest hint that some of the scales may not be entirely accurate and possibly not in favour of the traveller?? Heaven forbid!! There's a law against that sort of thing you know!

We travelled to Paris last weekend with Ryanair, hand luggage only, and both of our cases weighed a kilo more than they did at home.
Although we made sure we were well under luckily, so no charge or checked baggage necessary. |

Super you've Spinners, best thing in the world. Best invention out for cases. Ours are Delsey cases semi soft cabin cases. We also have spinners on the hold cases. My husband just gets them off the carousel and wheels them over to me, great invention and well worth the money paid for both sets. Regards, Pegasus. |

Hi Sue, Corfu Airport certaily did have scales last year. You pass them when standing in the first very long queue, on the right hand side opposite the glass wall/shops. I was curious what people were up to further up the queue and when I reached this point I could see people weighing their cases.

In April, Manchester airport charged us £20 excess. We didn't leave much behind in Kassiopi but Corfu airport showed us at only 15kg, well below the 20! Wonder why the scales differed so much - I do have an opinion but could just be being cynical!

A little tip, make sure the scales at Corfu Airport are showing zero before you place your case on the check-in scales..because even at Gatwick the scales were once showing 2kg before I put the case on.. Now I don't know how the Greek scales work but here in the UK the check-in staff can zero them by a button and are also calibrated at intervals to make sure they are correct.
Also our friends case was 20.9kgs on easyjet at Gatwick, but was told by check-in not to worry because they don't charge extra until it reads 21kg.

WE also have a digital weighing scale which must save us £s in charges and I always take it with us.
Going out to Corfu Monarch weighed our hand luggage but not for the return journey. There used to be a some suitcase weighing scales at Corfu airport along the corridor between Departures and Arrivals but I do not know if they are there now. |

Yes those are the ones, I have 4 wheels on mine and it is easy to just wheel it at my side, much easier in fact than pulling it ~~ totally worth the money.

Ah Kathy have you bought the sub zero g's then?? They are extremely light weight and this does make the difference when you are packing... I also love the stuRdy handle which is much larger and easier to use also.

We have just bought those cases that are so much lighter!! When I got home I weighed my usual case
5KGs then I weighed the one I had just bought, 2KGs!! Now this made a massive difference to us, we are going to Tenerife this week and our Luggage Allowance is 15KGs Kx

Last time we went to Corfu our suitcase weighed under when going out. Exactly same in suitcase coming back - and it weighed over and they charged us £20. Must have been the damp absorbed from being beside the sea!

Hi Kernowman,
No problem lifting our cabin cases in the lockers, it just seems the charter flights are a lot different and have different luggage sizes according to who you fly with. Speak soon. Regards, Pegasus. |

That's what I like about EasyJet. You have to keep within the 20kg for the hold but hand luggage is only restricted by size. If you can lift it into the overhead locker it can go.

Hi Kinninviekid,
Thanks for the link on the scales. My checked in case when packed to the hilt never does weigh over 20kg but I always worry about my hand luggage. I have a cabin size case and you really have to be careful on these charter flights, so it will be very useful for them. Schedule flights don't usually question the cases, even charter flights in Asia and Australia don't bother, it just seems to be the UK. Regards and thanks for the link. Pegasus.

Mine hold the weight display on as well.
They also have a tape measure built in so you can check your hand luggage is not too big
![]() They even display the temperature!! |
