Every time I'd recommend self-catering, at least in Greece.  That way you get a kettle and a fridge and you still get the choice of every restaurant for miles around.  It often means a cosy family-run place too.  Though supermarkets can be pricey so a bag stuffed with instant pasta (Morrisons: 50p, Greek Supermarket: €2.40) topped off with some local salami can save you money if you do want to eat in.

Even those who pay for B&B hotels sometimes feel hard done by as the free breakfast turns out to be cereal and toast whereas the very same restaurant will be serving up a full English with drinks for as little as €5.

Unless you pay a lot for a luxury hotel or go on a cruise, 'all-inclusive' does not mean a huge help-yourself buffet service available 24/7.  It means you queue for a canteen service to one side of the restaurant whilst all those paying cash get the full menu and table service.

That's what we thought Joe, it hasn't cost us much, in fact it was cheaper than self catering in Spain, we have never been to Corfu, so if we don't like the food or drink we will just head out in to Dassia as I've read some good reviews on the place.

From what I've heard from reps it's the very cheap all-inclusive food deals that disappoint most people, or really that they have unrealistic expectations based on what they paid.  Based on what it does cost, you wouldn't be missing out much if you headed into the rest of the resort to eat in the evening, or paid extra for a fridge and sorted yourself out for lunches.

Steve. The best time to catch Yiannis is first thing in the morning or after 7.30 pm.

Hi Steve.
The code for Greece is 0030 so you dial that first, then the number as above.
When you get through, ask for Yiannis.
Have a great holiday, we are hoping to be there again some time in September.

Glad to be of help Nic28. We are taking our two grand-daughter with us again this and they absolutely love it. Mind you, they spend most of the time in the hotel pool except when we venture out to other areas that we love. Hope you enjoy your stay as well.

Clap ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. CTRL+F5 reloads the whole page.Thank you for your reply. I'm even more excited now! We don't have high expectations at all we love Greece as it is, we can't fault it, the people and the islands are beautiful but its our first time in Corfu and it was more the bad comments people were posting on other sites about the hotel that I was starting to worry about the kids but you've put my mind at ease and I'm sure we'll try everywhere you mentioned more than once!!
I hope you have a lovely holiday

Hi there Nic28.

I have stayed at the Telemachos Hotel for the past 22 years, sometimes twice a year so that may tell you something about it!!

You must bear in mind that the hotel is 2 star only and therefore, do not expect the standards of anything higher. We have always 'taken things as they come' in Corfu and as you can guess, have been very comfortable with everything about it. The staff have always been exceptionally helpful and friendly and we look forward to our coming visit on the 21st of May.

As we only stay bed and breakfast, we have a couple of great places where eat in the evening within a few minutes walk of the hotel.  The first is 'La Casa' and Alexandros, which is further along the main road but still within an easy walk. The other is called Mam-A-Taka which is on the other side of the road before you get to La Casa. There are several other tavernas in Dassia, but of course we have our 'favourites'.

The road down from the Telemachos is fairly steep but after you have walked it once or twice you get used to it.

If there is anything else you would like to know about the hotel, please let me know.

I am sure you will enjoy your holiday and will want to return next year.
