I have been watching the price for weeks (morning noon and night) and patiently waiting for my other half to say those magical words; "Oh go on. You can book it"
Yipee! Today at last those words came!! My excitement was short lived. Looking at the website it said no flights available from East Midlands for my dates! For some strange reason I then changed the request from Paxos to Corfu and tried again. It gave me 53 choices of accomodation to book!!! I decided to phone Olympic. She confirmed that there were no flights from East Midlands. When I asked how come then I can book to stay on Corfu she rambeled on about it being a package and they have to charter a plane and thats why they need to know how many are going...still with me? No? Well I hadn't a clue what she was saying either! ....So says I if I had tried to book yesterday I could because it did not say no flights yesterday? So what is the difference from yesterday to today? She replied "Are you sure you were looking at East Midlands" I was sure. To which she replied "In that case I don't know." So does anybody know why?? A very fed up Helen |

Helen, I just tried flight only from EMA on their site and guess what?? Yep they will sell you a flight to Corfu with Jet2 so I would phone them back and argue there IS a flight to Corfu from EMA.

I'm sure Tina had this same problem either last year or the year before. I'm not sure if she solved it, but she now goes independently after years of traveling with Olympic.

Yes it's me. Stupid excuse from Olympic that if you don't fly on one of their charterd flights Strategic etc then they can't do a transfer to Paxos as the transport isn't available. I spoke to customer service rather than the salemen!! I did ask how the customers got to their resort, they did say that holiday prices wouldn't include transfers? But eventuially a confession that coaches would be used, but no answer why they couldn't through you off near the port!! Got emails telling me off for asking questions about it on FB!
Have you looked at booking a flight, then using Olympic for room only, or, better still, go to another independant operator in Lakka for rooms. the Yorgos studios are good, our friends loved being on the top floor and noseying at all the passers by. You can still use Bastsas pool etc as long as you buy drinks or food. We even got a lift back from Monodendri (the walk there from Apergatika is another story)
Good news is I have been given a sort of go ahead for September!! Hence looking now as coughing keeping me awake!
Hope we both get there, and pehaps at the same time??

Just had a play about as I thought the only flight from EM was Jet2. It is and in June you can book Paxos and the flight is the same as in September so why not then? The rooms are available too. Make sure you persist when you phone and don't be fobbed off. They tried that with me saying there were no boats etc at that time of year, till I pointed out I was looking at a timetable, family lived there, been going for years so forget your script and treat me like I do have some intelligence!!
Maddening thing is I was doing it for Mum who wants security of travel etc in her late 70s, not hassle. she is now going independant too, flight booked, no room yet but I have sorted her transfers already, and they will look after her.

Helen, did you know that Monarch, Thomas Cook and Thomson all fly from Birmingham International? I don't know how their prices compare with Jet2, but I think it would be a lot closer for you than E Mids.

I just suddenly wondered why Olympic don't go from Birmingham, so I had a look on their website and guess what? They are showing availability at Bastas with flights on 3 or 10 September from Birmingham International!

Hi Girls!
I usually fly from B'ham but the flight this year is an evening flight. EM is really not that much further and remembering the chaos last year I'm hoping Jet2 from EM is better than Strategic from B'ham! I'm not too keen at the moment of doing it independant again remembering last year with strikes and no Dolphins so I would like the ease of letting someone else sort me out!! Price wise Olympic are coming in at around £850 for us both. So it looks like come Tuesday I shall have to do some ranting! If I get nowhere then I shall have to pick both your brains! First question to start me off; who's done your transfers Tina? Olympic Facebook had better watch out looks like a few questions will be flying their way!! |

Helen, Routsis did the transfers for us. Cost wise for 1 person it is around what you would pay yourself. I was grateful we booked it when the hydrofoils stopped last year!
Olympic have removed the ability to post your own question now, so you have to tag onto the end of one of their adverts. Suprisingly they removed comments about someone booking accomodation to find it has now disappeared off the website!
Not sure why but September flights are more than June. Playing around with the cheapest option now, possibly 2 different airlines and airports?
Good luck with the rant!

Hi Helen. I hadn't noticed the flight times but judging by all the complaints I saw last year (not just on flights to Corfu either!) I'm sure you're right that Jet2 will be a lot more reliable than any of Olympic's charter airlines!

So someone saw common sense in the end then!!! Blimey you did well. Would a 'sleepover' at Alton Towers a couple of days after I returned undo all the relaxing of a September trip for me then? Or would Paxositis continue for a few days I wonder? Promised the Guides we could try one, not thinking I would be given the go ahead for this year

I'm just so excited!!! I'm going home!!!
My poor blood pressure Elaine! I was so frustrated! After two calls to reservations one call to customer services and messages left on Olympics facebook page I was beginning to think I would go mad if someone would not explain the reason why I could not book the holiday!! I decided to give it one more try and so with a heavy heart I phoned reservations again. This time I got lucky with a lovely lady called Stavi. She wouldn't have been more helpful explaining how they bought at the beginning of the season x amount of seats from Jet2 at reduced prices for Paxos only. Some were for 2 weeks and some for 1 week holidays. The 2 weeks that I wanted had gone. What she could not understand was why if rooms were available I could not book them with flights with Jet2 but might cost me a bit more. She wanted to investigate what she could do with flights at the cheapest price. She asked me how much it would cost for my transfers if I booked them myself and thanks to help from Tina I was able to tell her it would cost me about 150 euros. She was hoping to see if Olympic would throw in the transfer for me. After a nail biting few hours Stavi phoned me back with the good news. Bastas room available Jet2 flight available but about £50 more and Olympic would not charge me for transfers!! So I think the moral of this story is keep trying and talk to the other person on the end of the line as if your world is going to end if you don't get that holiday ..... if all else fails ask for Stavi the lovely lady from Cyprus! Tina...come on girl you can't be the only one of us not to be going this year. I will be watching and waiting for your good news! I'm off now.....to start writing out my packing list..... |
