Hi
Can anyone give me an idea of prices of eating / drinking out in Kalami and Corfu in general. Haven't been to Greece for 2 - 3 years and am concerned that prices have risen due to economy.
Thanks

Any price rises were minimal when we last visited in September, compared to previous years. You should expect that Kalami and Agni will be a little more expensive than some coastal villages or resorts. But do not let this put you off, a few more euros is a small price to pay for paradise!
I would suggest the exchange rate will have more bearing than local price increases. Last year we got average €1.12 per £1. Looks like this year it may be more like €1.18-1.20 per £1. If this is the case then any small price rises will be negated by the better rate of exchange.

Well I agree with The Wise Old man of Norwich,as ever. He's MUSTARD!
Kalami is a One Off! It's an experience of Paradise. What price?.
We dine out every night. Dee can't cook!
With a couple of main courses occasional sweets! and 2 or 3 litres of wine!!! Hic! around 40/50 euros!
First Greek phrase my Dee taught me.
"TO LO GARISMO PARACALORE!!" Can't spell it!!! Anybody tell me what it means??? Yamas!! Woodie |

Kalami isnt the cheapest place unfortunately - but we love it. And you must remember that prices at home have risen a fair bit in the last three years, and our situation is nowhere near as dire as that of Greece. However, we have found that locals have done their best to keep increases to a minimum, but not sure what will happen this year as I think that VAT has increased since we were last there. Personally, I don't care how much it costs - I will still be going to Corfu twice (hopefully) this year

Hi Bud79
Kalami is on the north east coast of Corfu and prices are generally a little higher there, the resorts tend to be small and self contained with access to public transport not always easy. The north coast and the west coast tend to be generally cheaper. If you haven't been to Greece for three years you will probably find prices are higher than you were paying last time you were there. Whether you find prices on Corfu higher than other islands/mainland resorts depends where else in Greece you have been.
We stay in Kalami. In the evenings we usually have two courses and a litre of house wine and last September our evening meals at tavernas cost between €40 and €85 depending where we ate and what we ate. The €85 euro was at Agni where we both had fresh seafood for starters & mains, a carafe of wine plus a beer for him and a house cocktail for me.
Main courses in the Kalami tavernas start from about €8 for simple pasta dishes moving up to €16-€20 for fresh seafood. Traditional Greek dishes are generally around €10-€13. The Cocktails & Dreams Bar at the A & A opens for breakfast and serves food till late in the evening. You'll find everything from English cafe food to Greek favourites to steak & chips on their menu with prices starting from about €2.50 for a toasted cheese sandwhich up to €14 for the steak & chips. Their daily specials are excellent value, ranging from €6.5 to €9, lemon lamb is one of our favourites. The bar at the Frosso apartments also serves snacks & light meals throughout the day.

Hi Deedee, great review. did you find that Agni was more expensive than the other restaurants in general or was it just because of what you had - the fresh seafood? Thanks.

Hi Ska81
Its a little of both - fresh fish & seafood tend to be the highest priced items on restaurant menus anywhere and that is what we tend to order when we dine at Agni. For my husband it is because he loves the drunken mussels & seafood spaghetti, for me it is because I really enjoy fish & seafood and I also find the meat dishes at Agni a little rich for my digestive system. There are also the extra drinks - I haven't come across Agni's house cocktail anywhere else so I have to have one whilst I'm there. If you are staying in Kalami you also get the boat ride to Agni (and back again) thrown in. It's less than 5 mins each way but it's a lovely experience.
Although the ambiance and the dress code are relaxed Agni is more fine dining than standard taverna and priced accordingly so dining at Agni has always cost more than the Kalami tavernas. I think there used to be more of a price differential than there is now but over the years the prices of the different establishments have risen at varying rates. Our dining choices vary, sometimes we go into Kassiopi for a gryros with a soft drink and dinner for two costs less than €10, sometimes we go to Agni and spend €80 on dinner. We've always been happy with value for money of both those options and we define expensive as not being value for money.
Most of our evening meals last year cost between €40 and €50. We only had one really disappointing meal and that was one that cost €39 so it was one of the cheapest on price but to us it was not value for money because we didn't enjoy it.
Agni - thank you.
