This link seems to be a few years old but I thought it might be of interest since it includes a map of the area concerned, which is the first one I've been able to find.
http://news.gtp.gr/2013/02/01/greece-closes-privatization-deal-on-kassiopi-corfu/ Last year on a boat trip around the north-east corner of Corfu, the captain was complaining that the picturesque headland and beaches sticking out of the far north-eastern corner of Corfu had been sold off to a private developer to raise capital. It seems to have been haggled over for a few years but finally settled in 2016. It's not quite as devastating as he made out, but it's a sizeable chunk of land, and will certainly alter the views along the coast. (Technically it's also leased for 99 years rather than sold, not that that makes much difference to anyone around at the moment). The land starts off at the northern inland corner of San Stefanos, but doesn't include that headland. It covers the top of the hill where there are currently radio masts, and covers the next few beaches with lagoons behind them, stopping part-way along the second beach. But at least what it doesn't do is extend onto the northern headland with those lovely wide sandy beaches where the boats do like to pull in, as the captain had implied. No doubt it'll put a lot more people in the region, but it's not tearing up the wooded areas and beaches, just the bare hills above San Stefanos. Thought that might be of interest. |

I'd seen a few reports dated 2016 that things had been completed, but that latter newspaper piece is kind of the problem I was having - they've used a stock photo of the headland which is exactly the place where it isn't going to be built - at least, according to the map in the 2013 piece; what they've bought is the hill off the right-hand side of that photo. Maybe it's because no-one supplies stock photos of bare hillsides with government microwave installations on the top!

I agree totally, but at least they are only going to be be able to build on a small part of the project.
The total area of the property at Kassiopi, Corfu, is 490,000 square meters, in which the investor will have the right to develop a gross buildable area of about 36,000 square meters. |
