So after the freak floods and hail storms of winter the little island must now be waking up ready for the summer season ahead.
Looking on the Paxos Grapevine, friends face book pages and the webcam, it really is coming back alive! The spring flowers are out in all their glory. The local Tavernas have been busy making the most of the islands fruits and turning them into liqueurs and sweets to give as compliments of the house. Then there has been the repairing, painting and cleaning that has going on for weeks. The local residents and school children have been out cleaning up rubbish from the beaches, and over grown paths have been cleared. Next week will see the first one of us to arrive. I bet her bags are packed and she is bursting with excitement! The rest of us will be waiting, and watching for those just back reports, wishing away our summer, thinking it can't come quick enough. Some will be dreaming of boat trips on Roxy 3, some will know they will be able to enjoy weeks on their favourite island, and some will be looking forward to seeing family. So just to say to anyone that is about to go, have a wonderful time and please, don't forget that "just back report"! We'll all be waiting... ![]() |

Six giddy ladies are sorting their gear out ready for Monday. Sadly I'm not one of them! Two are first timers so have a list of must dos and my Bleasdale.
I will be waiting for their messages as they have a sunset drink and we all wish I could be with them. |

4th June - Gatport Airwick Meet and Greet. Premier Inn bed for about 4 hours!
Wander over to Airwick Gatport for 5 am ish breakfast. Buy some Chanel smelly stuff. Get on plane. G & T on flight. Get off plane. Get cases after a wee down the stairs at Corfu. (not on the stairs!) Meet Clare again then Taxi to Port. (same driver each year). Leave cases and wander along to the first Taverna for lunch in the sun. Stop off over the road on the way back just to test the Mythos again! Get on ferry. One of the girlies from O Gios runs up and kisses Val. (Chanel smelly must have worn off!) Have a little kip then---We are coming into Gaios. Babis is there with our car. OK it's got 4 wheels. But has anyone ever got into 4th gear on Paxos? This is the bit you booked 12 months ago and have longed for. Turn right out of the Port, right again up past the reservoir bear right through Fontana then your nearly there. LOGGOS AND THE ROXI BAR AND ROXI 3 ARE AT THE END OF THE ROAD> Oh dear - Sorry. Got a bit excited. |

Hi Malcy, we'll be there again two weeks later and up to now we are struggling to get a reply from any of our emails sent to the offices on Paxos for info about a hire car. Seems odd? Anway, just wondered if you could point us in the right direction for hiring a car. We usually go for a small one as it's all we need. Our friend picks us up from the hydrofoil but we would rather ask you for car hire advice. Thank you in advance. Billy.

It might be that it's only the start of the season so emails not being looked at often yet. You could try phoning on one of the numbers that's 1/2p per minute to get a more direct answer.
As for my friends they arrived on Monday, no problems with transfers or the wind. In Lakka before 7 o'clock. Sent me a picture of the sunset in the bay, then texts saying where they were eating and drinking, sigh!! Great weather so I think the 2 newbies will be back ![]() |

Tina that's wonderful its always a worry recommending somewhere. They look like they had really good weather as well judging by the webcam. Not looking so good this week though.
Just been reading the Simpson Travel write up that someone has posted on the Grapevine. I think he summed it up beautifully. Mind you an island full of donkeys. There's only one now isn't there?! Here it is in case anyone would like to read it. http://www.simpsontravel.com/blog/letter-paxos_759 |

Can't remember the last time I saw a donkey, but apart from that it's a really good write-up Helen. "it just makes you ‘feel’ " That just about sums up Paxos doesn't it

Pressure?? I've just come back from Paxos, I'm chiiiiiled man!
You'll all have to wait a wee while longer for my review though, I have to have time to be able to let the feeling sink in before I can come to terms with writing in past tense. Morning cappuccino at harbour lights anyone? |

My word, I'm feeling an irresistible need to go to Paxos. I am addicted. This would be about my 16th visit.
"Nostalgia" has Greek origins and I can see why. "To do is to be"----Voltaire. "To be is to do"-------Jean Paul Satre "Do be do be do"-----Frank Sinatra. |

Okay, so I know that this question has been asked and answered loads of times but honestly I have read so many posts that I'm dizzy with information. Can anyone give a dead easy simple to understand answer to the question of returning from Corfu airport to MAN in late June when travelling independently and checking in luggage with regard to the herding and forced queing arrangements being undertaken by the travel reps. Is it absolutely essential to join the masses of package deal holiday makers who naturally have to be kept together in tour company groups, when travelling totally independently? We've done it both ways and this time, for sure, I would like to feel confident that the choice I make is the right one.

If we are travelling independently we just avoid all the queues at departures, enter through arrivals and walk through to the check in for our airline, which is usually easyJet. Have been stopped before by reps but just spoke Greek. Lol

Sounds like a plan Elliemay - what phrase did you use exactly to the reps? I know what mine would be but not sure whether it would translate all that well, too many ffff's...

So, been looking at Trip Advisor and found this post - " there is NO queue outside the airport for Easyjet flights or any other "free" flights operating, like Ryanair. Most of the queues you see - most of them on Fridays- are for Thomson charter flights, where the reps have passengers wait outside for all the transfer buses to arrive from all over the island 3-4 hours ahead of departure and then to assign a checkin desk for them inside.
It's the charter flights travel agencies, which collect and drop off departing holiday makers very early and treat them like sheep (excuse me for that, but this is what it reminds me of). Does that seem to make sense is so far as travelling independently will bypass all the herding? |
