Hi has anyone been on a trip here? My hubby fancies going to Albania and I was wondering if they went and where to (and from).
Thanks
Jan

Ferries and cruise boats go from Corfu Town- with coach transfers there from the resorts. Saranda itself is not particularly interesting except to see how it has grown since Communism fell, but the jewel is the archaeological site of Butrint, a drive outside the town (included on the tours I think).  There is also a castle above Saranda itself.

We went a few years ago, we booked locally in Sidari which included the coach to Corfu port and the ferry. We dont know if its the normal practice on the Albania excursions but once we were getting on to the ferry we were then charged again for the guided tour to Butrint (which was more than we had already paid) but there was nothing we could do at that point and paid the extra money.

Glad we did because Butrint is lovely and has some amazing views from the top, though its a bit of a trek up hill and the tour guide was dragging us round at a rate of knots!! We were then taken somewhere else for lunch which again was very nice.  Another couple from our hotel didnt want to pay the extra fee for the guided tour and we're left in Saranda all day until the return ferry, we didnt see much of Saranda but they said that they had been on the beach all day as there wasn't much to do and didnt know where to go as they hadnt expected being left to fend for themselves so if you do decide to go I would look in to that before you book!

As the reply above my wife and I can recommend the Albania trip. The first time we went it included a trip to the Blue Eye which is worth the price in itself. The second time they didn't include any trips (as above) and we decided to go our own way. We asked an old guy in the taxi rank in Seranda if he'd take us to the Blue Eye. Worked out a price (35 euros for a two hour stay). Again I can't speak highly enough of the scenery around the Blue Eye, the lake and 'sink-hole' are brilliant and if you go for a paddle in the sink-hole area you'll find out what cold really means ;-) The Albanians were also very friendly and the shops are only too pleased to accept your Euros.

We went a couple of weeks ago. We have been twice before, once in 1986 and again in 2002. It is amazing how it has gone from nothing to a modern, clean and vibrant town.
It costs 20 euro for the ferry, 23 euros for the tour and 10 euros for the port tax so 53 euros each in total but well worth the money.
