So, it's our first time staying in Kalami. We will undoubtedly try all the local restaurants as we are staying for two weeks. We love the local food and would like regular visitors to tell us where they think does the best! Individual dishes please, ie: where would you go for the best?
Cheese pies/Greek salad/fried courgettes/calamari etc. You get the picture? Then we can make sure we try them in the right places!! I know it's all personal taste but thought this would be fun to see what people think.

I'll be taking notes and will report back in August!

Personally I think the best tiripatakia (cheese pies) are served at Thomas's. The White House serves a wonderful Kleftico and Kouloura does great fish (according to my wife as I'm not a fish lover). Back to Thomas's for walnut pie desertčśÄ

We've always thought that overall Kalami Beach Taverna has the best meals - spicy village chicken to die for - a close second being the White House.

Must agree with JackArmy. Kalami Beach Taverna, especially for the fish.

Or just go up to the main road on the way to Nissaki and Roumelis taverna is the best. All food totally fresh, home cooked bread and all the mezes are brilliant.

If you go up to Agni there's Nikolas Tavern great for fish and Agni tavern. Roumelis tavern is ok, but it's all about opinions. One things for sure there's plenty to go at.

My husband loves Stifado and tried it in every taverna in Kalami, best one was Thomas' with Dimitri's being a close second. Shame that no-one did Rabbit Stifado because that really is his favourite. My best was the Pork with Apricots in Matellas with Rose Wine served in pottery Chicken Carafes and the lady in Matellas did promise to try to get Rabbit at Corfu market but sadly none available so husband had the seafood meal but was unimpressed with the Crab Sticks. Greek night at Nikolas Taverna is a must and Dimitris on a Tuesday with live music is an experience not to be missed. I did not see a pizza oven but then it isn't my food of choice in Greece. Now Gyros is another matter!

Koloura - onion rings to die for and a huge portion
Elia Pool Bar - crepes, love the lemon and sugar which comes swimming in warm lemon juice
Toula's at Agni - Toula's prawns and the other prawns she does, all the puddings (I have worked my way through the lot, research you understand!)
Agni Taverna - drunken mussels, stifado, rack of lamb, prawn saganaki and the beetroot dip

Hungry now!!

Thanks folks! All sounds lovely.
Prawn saganaki is definitely one of my favourites so I'll be trying it at Agni.
Where does take away Gyros for lunch??

Fabulous prawn saganaki in The White House. Last year Matella's offered Gyros at lunchtime to take-away (restaurant open evenings only).

Elia Pool bar does a nice Gyros and I'm sure that Dorina will prepare it for carry out purposes.

This is a great thread, I did not know about the Gyros! We walked up to the Elia last year and it was really dead it was mid June? Mind you the World Cup was on. Is it worth a visit? Will be back on 12th June for 2 glorious weeks. Does anyone know if Effie will be back at the San Antonio top pool bar this year?

Pippenpicken Elia is definitely worth a visit, even just for a lunch and chat with Dorina.  She will make you very welcome and although the bar can be quiet, she has her regulars year in year out so that must say something.  You should try the strawberry crepe with ice cream, to die for.  Then a dip in the pool to cool down.

Hi Leelee36

Kalami Beach Taverna has always been our favourite of the Kalami tavernas.  It was where my husband learnt to appreciate fish served whole and where we both had our first taste of briam.  They do a really good bruschetta; the simplicity & freshness of which is the perfect foil for richness of their cheese pies or various crusts (selection of mini savoury pastries) if you have them together.  They also do a superb Spaghetti Carbonara.

Are we there yet?

Back in Sept Lily's Gran, so gonna make sure we give that a go!

Does anybody know if the beach bar's been built yet? And if so, is the Greek dancing held there or still at C&D's?

Beach bar is more of a beach lounge with nice seats sun loungers etc. If you want a drink or snack, Kristina will take your order and then go over the road to Cocktails and Dreams to retrieve it. Word is planning was refused for the actual bar itself. Greek night is still at C and D and just as good as ever.

Brilliant news! Lounge bar sounds good; I can do lounging. Good news about the dancing as well. Seen it countless times but could watch it over and over again.
