Morning all, another newbie here.

Having already booked a villa in Nissaki from April 25th to May3rd, I'm wondering if because it's so early in the season, whether all the restaurants will be open or will be limited in choice?

We will have a car for the duration and intend to cover as much of the island as possible. Being a bit of a foodie, I'm making a short list of eating destinations from Trip Advisor and any recommendations from those in the know on this forum.

I've read the thread on Kassiopi where Tavernaki amongst others seems highly regarded.

Many thanks in advance,

Richard & Lesley

Hi

The season in Corfu doesn't really kick off until 1st May (and this being a Friday this year, you may be looking at Saturday) so many tavernas may not be open (or fully open). Sometimes, it can depend upon the weather - if its cold and wet, many will delay their opening!

So far as Nissaki is concerned, my only recommendation is for Roumeli - which tends to be open all year round. (Recomended because it's the only one we use in Nissaki).

This a small tavern on the roadside with not much in the way of views (there is a large picture window at one end and there were plans for a terrace at the end of last season) but the welcome and the fresh home-cooked food is both excellent and good value - not "haute cuisine" but good, flavoursome and wholesome,

We have eaten in the Tavernaki in Kassiopi - great views across the harbour and the food is really enjoyable

Enjoy
Martyn

As My friend Martyn said, plus, you may like to check out the comments posted on the Kalami section, where there is a post relating to a little earlier than you dates, but the info is valid.
A little further afield, you might like to check Acharavi, Perithia and Almyros.
Use the search facility for loads of information.

If they're open Spiros in Paleokastritsa is good, they have huge spit roasts, Greek style.
Also in Paleo is Nausika, they do an amazing dish called Grandmama's lamb, slow cooded lamb on the bone in a mustard & cream sauce. OH had it 3 times in a week last year!

OKAY!!!
Restaurants that are open all year around.

Bikolis in Peroulades. Open every evening except Tuesday.
Zephyros in Almyros. Open every day as far as I am aware but obviously limited choice.
Mon Amour in Kavadades. Open every evening. Mainly grill room but excellent food.
Pizza Romano in Sidari. Open every evening. Pizzas from their pizza oven and other dishes.
Bavias in Sidari. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Bit more than a grill room.
Tavernaki in Kassiopi were going to be open for the winter but closed and believe they are reopening in April.

Over to you folks. Please add any that you are aware of or any corrections. Lol

You will always be able to find somewhere to eat so don't fret.
This is the thread that Bob was referring to:

As we aren't there until April, this info is as we were told last December.
Acharavi, all these open various days mostly weekends.
Pumphouse, Alegria, Skondros, Maestro, Yani's Blue Grill Room (can't remember it's name.)
Perithia, there are some tavernas open all year certain days in both New and Ano Perithia.
From Nissaki I would think that there will be a number of options the other direction, towards town.
So, a bit of a scout round is on the cards.

Wolfie308,
As you can tell, both Bob and I are able to tell you what is available in the North. However, if you want to venture further, there are always place open in Corfu Town, but south of there I am afraid I am lost.
Will ask friends in the south and get back to you.

Many thanks to all for the helpful and speedy replies - no substitute for local knowledge.

Looks like we'll have to take pot luck to an extent. Probably eat in more than I'd thought, but no hardship as the place we're staying, Villa Magla in Viglatsouri, looks lush with great views and fully equipped kitchen.

Out of interest, I emailed Archontiko in Chlomotiana Village on Monday due to good reviews on TA, but haven't received a reply.

As far as know from friends that live near there they are open, but if I find any further information will let you know. It is a long drive from Nissaki though. x

Many places open all over the island- north and south - do try the best selection of fish tavernas on Corfu- Boukari and Petriti.
Also if May 1st is a Friday it should be pretty busy as this is a holiday in Greece many may take a long weekend, so may be 'local' visitors on the island too.

There will be many places open when you go so do not worry. We went to Paleokastitsa last Greek Easter and were surprised how many places were open. They all said that was the start of their season and were all going strong when we were there in June and October. Just enjoy this very beautiful and laid back island and you will not regret it.
Have fun

kind regards
Tom
