I hope everyone is safe on Corfu during this Severe Storm. I know that some flights from East Mid, Newcastle, Bristol and Birmingham have been circling off the west coast of Corfu.

It wasn't too clever yesterday either!

Lynn's fight from Luton had two attempts at landing before diverting to Thessaloniki. After a short period on the ground there, the plane returned to Corfu and even then needed a further three attempts before it finally landed.

I was watching the Bristol flight and think it was diverted to Athens but don't know what happened from there.
What is this life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare.

Friends of ours have been put up in a hotel in Corfu Town last night due to flight delay. 5* All Inc. Can't be bad as they said.

Thunderstorms here in San Stefanos (NE) for the third day running ... Yesterday we stayed in the Wave Bar for five hours whilst waiting to change properties.  It was a lovely way to spend the morning/afternoon ... after a few too many drinks we braved it and made a dash for it, complete with suitcases Approve.  The rain eased off soon after!  It was dry here first thing this morning, but the rain started about 10.30am, soon followed by thunder and lightening and has been going strong since.  Roll on tomorrow when the weather is forecast to change.

Wendy's niece was meant to fly to Bristol yesterday with TC, now ensconced in an hotel in Messongi awaiting news with raised hopes for later today. Lets hope.
It just goes to show it all depends on luck and a weather window, our friend up the hill from us, arrived safely last evening no trouble.

Watched on Flightradar and a Monach & Ryanair flight circled for a while then headed to Thessaloniki.

Rain in town was like a river.

Hi Guys,
Got to agree that Corfu airport was not a nice place to be on Monday and very confusing.
We arrived at the airport at 10.00hrs and it was raining and an Air France plane had just landed. No obvious problems at that time as the Air France flight took off again.
About 11.30/12.00hrs the first flight to be diverted came up on the board. Ours to Gatwick with EasyJet. We were meant to fly at 11.45hrs. Then EasyJet to Luton and a few to other British/ European destinations. We were kept up to date with developments etc via the announcements. Couldn't fault them as they were up to date and did keep you in the picture. I do feel very sorry for the people who were on the two Ryanair flights. The reason. The announcement just said that the planes had returned to Manchester and Oslo. All other airlines had went to mainland Greece or Italy to wait for a break in the weather and we were told that. The Ryanair passengers were told that their flights had returned to base. Eg they did not do what every other airline did "wait for a break in the weather" We took off at 15.25hrs to Gatwick and arrived at 16.15hrs. Just a pity our 16.00hrs flight up to Edinburgh had taken off. Spoke to EasyJet at Gatwick and they were great. Put us on next flight to Edinburgh. Not having a go at Ryanair, but why were they the only airline who did not wait for the weather to clear and just turn around and go home The weather had cleared and gave all the other airlines the window "that's the words our pilot used" to land and take off again.
Just glad we are home and were there to witness the real events and not hearsay.
Roll on next June

After hearing about the situation with those poor Ryanair passengers being abandoned (the Daily Heil reporting that a few of them have already lost their jobs) it's comforting to hear that EasyJet have behaved professionally in the matter.

My flight Monarch Mon 1643 return UK Birmingham on Mon 6th was 25 minutes late on arrival due to circling round NE Corfu. And took off 40 minutes late, so for me not too bad! But upon hearing other passengers I was very luckyEmbarrassed Sunday heavy rain all day, so spent the time in the tavernas/bars in  Messonghi so "wet outside wet inside"  Beer

We've experienced rain, thunder & lightining on Corfu during previous visits but not relentlessly for almost 3 days.  We went out on the 27th September and had a glorious first week.  A friend joined us for our 2nd week, her first visit to Corfu.  We picked her up from the airport on Sat 4th October and thankfully the weather was still lovely that day.
What a change we woke up to on the Sunday morning.  No harm done and we were not stuck on a plane during it.  It's just difficult finding things to do on a Greek island holiday during prolonged periods of adverse weather.
Sunday afternoon we ventured west to see if it was any better over that side but it wasn't.  We ended up coming back over Troumpeta (the rain was so solid we couldn't see the quarry!) to Acharavi and having a cold, wet walk along the main street before stumbling into a taverna down a side street.  Luckily for us the taverna was Ta Rebetika who had a log fire going, we were soon warm & dry.
Monday we stayed local in Kassiopi.
Tuesday we drove over to Paleocastritsa which appeared to be deserted, never seen empty beaches there before.  We then drove up through Lakones and stopped at the Golden Fox because every Corfu visitor should see that view at least once. The view was still worth seeing even in that appalling weather although the price of cake & coffee for 3 people was not conducive to repeat visits.  We went back over Troumpeta again and dropped into Roda for a late lunch.  Whilst we were en route the rain had stopped and the sky started to clear.  By the time we got back to Kassiopi the sky was blue again and we booked the boat trip to Corfu town for the day after.
I'm not sure our friend will be back but we will be.
Next year we'll pack our tablet, just in case!

Deedee Big smile

Are we there yet?
We've been and come back but we're going again.

If you want/expect wall to wall sunshine surely don't go in October, especially with a first time visitor.
