    Posted: 21 May 2014 at 10:48am
We are planning a trip back to Corfu in August this year.
Last time we were there on our honeymoon and stayed in Paleokastritsa.

We are thinking about staying a few days on the north side, hiring a car for a day

A few days on the south side, hiring a car for a day

And maybe end the stay in Corfu town for a night or two due to early flight home.
and do a day on Paxos

My husband loves to snorkel. So we are more into pebble beaches than sand.
We are not at all into partying. Maybe a beer for my husband. but I will be 18 weeks pregnant.
We love to eat in nice tavernas with good food.
Some cultural sights, nice walks in the evening. Authentic Greek and not all touristy.
Preferably different beaches within walking distance.

Any ideas on where to stay?

Like Davyboy says, Kassiopi may be an idea! Pebble beaches and crystal clear water, perfect for snorkelling. Lots of nice places to eat, a Venetian fort and stunning harbour, and a good base to venture further afield if it takes your fancy.

Kalami or San Stephanos in the North-East will fit the bill. Kassiopi lovely too with a bit more going on.

I agree with Canarydave, we have just spent a lovely morning in Kassiopi...breakfast at the Wave bar, then a walk up to the castle and around the hill, then a trip to Loustre and back to Kalami for lunch and relaxing by the pool before off to Nikolas's taverna by boat to Agni bay for a Greek night. Bliss

Depends what you are looking for. S.Steph and Kalami are much quieter than Kassiopi - villages rather than towns. If you are looking for lots of choice of bars and restaurants then Kassiopi would suit. If you are looking for more relaxed atmosphere but happy with just a few bars and restaurants and no shops (apart from Supermarkets and a couple of gift shops) then look at S.Steph or Kalami.  (Make sure you get the correct Ag. Stephanos as there are two)

Didn't know Kassiopi was a town. Always known it as the beautiful village of Kassiopi

You may be right Davyboy but in comparison to Kalami it seems more like a town to me. When does a village become a town and does the presence of a Fort make it a town maybe?

This will be our 29th holiday to the beautiful, relaxing village of Kassiopi. Any villager will tell you it is not a town. But to say a Fort might make it a town would be like saying because Kalami has a supermarket it might be a Industrial Estate

Nice one Dave.  Might be wrong but I thought Kalami was in the administrative district of Kassiopi. Good banter Sue

Could resist a google search on this. Apparently a village becomes a town when it has a Town Hall.
A hamlet becomes a village when it has a church.

Canarydave,
You are correct.

The municipal unit Kassopaia is subdivided into the following communities (constituent villages in brackets):

  • Gimari (Gimari, Vlachatika, Kavalleraina, Kalami, Kentroma, Plagia, Rachi)
  • Kassiopi (Kassiopi, Agios Georgios, Imerolia, Kellia, Lithiasmenos, Pigi, Plateia, Podolakkos, Psyllos dyo, Psyllos ena)
  • Nisaki (Nisaki, Apolysoi, Vinglatouri, Katavolos)
  • Sini (Agnitsini, Agios Stefanos Kassiopi, Vingla, Karyotiko, Kokkini, Kokkokylas, Kremithas, Mengoulas, Porta, Rou, Santa, Sarakinatika, Tritsi)

There is no Town Hall in Kassiopi. Kassiopi Town Hall is in Kouloura, perhaps Kouloura is a Town.

Thanks for that Elliemay.

Davyboy,
This could go on forever. Lol

Kassiopi Town Hall – Staying in Nissaki means you’ll be tying the knot in a big and airy room in Kassiopi Town Hall. You’ll find it above the beautiful bays of Kalami, Koloura and the waterfront villages.

I still think it's nearer to Kalami, although the address says Kouloura. Winkx Often see it nestling in the hillside to the right when driving that way.
