Hi all.
We have been coming to Paleo for about five years now, and because it is so beautiful we have never really ventured away (apart from going to Liapades, Lakones, Makrades, Corfu Old Town).  We were there in July and planned to get out a bit further afield. I had read about the abandoned village at Perithia, so we hired a bike and set off. We went through Ipsos, and a few other places, and saw a turn off on the main road (on the right) to Perithia. We followed this road and came to a little village and saw a sign for the old town, which we followed. We simply could not find it! I have booked again for next July and am determined to find this place. When we got back to the Aphrodite, Elisabeth said we should have parked up and walked to find it, but we honestly couldn't see it. Can anbody give us some idea of where we went wrong, and how to actually find it as I am now on a mission. Thanks in advance. xSmile

If you found Perithia you were on the right road. I think you just turned back too quickly.
Once through Perithia, continue to Loutses, make sure you bear left going towards Loutses, its marked up anyway, after Loutses keep straight on, the road deteriorates for a bit then improves again, it will seem like you are going to the end of the earth, but then you will see the village in a hollow between the hills. Sadly no longer deserted in the true sense of the word.
Bob.

There's another abandoned village much closer, if you're interested - Vitoulades.  It's only a few buildings though.  It's off the road from Vistonas to Aghia Anna, just behind the hill above the eastern edge of Lakones.
There's a red-roofed church on a raised bit of land to the north of the road, and a concrete road leading up and over the hill to a church to the south.  You can cut across the grassy plain on foot either diagonally from the start of the concrete road, or straight across from further round in the open.

If you want to walk there, I suggest going up to Lakones on the donkey path, then left and out to Alki's olive wood carving shop and showroom.  Exactly opposite is a path up to the Vistonas road.  Just before you reach the top, you join a rubble road out of the valley.  Keep following it up to the road, then turn right and follow the main road around the back of the two hilltops above Lakones until you find the church and the concrete road, then cut across the plain from the start of the concrete road to the ghost village.  On the way back, go over the concrete road until you come to a tiled pillar monument all on its own.  To the right is the upper donkey trail back down to Lakones.  If you want, you can go to the end of the path you're on to see the church, then come back to this pillar.  Then follow the donkey trail and keep left, all the way down into the top of Lakones.  You can walk straight down to the main road through Lakones, or take the second left and follow the road around and come out right opposite the Boulis taverna.  The town square, and the path back down to Paleokastritsa, is off to the right.

Oooh thank you sooooooo much!  Really appreciate your help.  I will definitely find (or try to! As from my original post, I am rubbish at directions lol) and Vitoulades. Bob and Wendy...I saw a sign for Loutses, but thought we had gone too far at that point.  I'm going to copy your replies so I have them to hand for my next visit.  Thank you again.x
