Me and my girlfriend are staying in Paleokastritsa on Sunday for a week and we were wondering if there is anywhere we can go paragliding and approx costs. Have a hire car so anywhere on the island isn't a problem. Also any good places to eat in Paleo? Recommendations please. Thanks in advance

They may well offer paragliding in Paleo. If not I have seen this in Ipsos when I have driven through.

Last few years I know they've done boat-towed parascending from the watersports jetty at the far end of the car park in Paleokastritsa, from early July through August. Can't remember the price. Maybe €40-€50 for two people? I did it on my own but found the harness uncomfortable. At least for a couple they generally let you lift off the back of the boat, rather than make you run down the jetty as the rope reels out.
If you mean actual paragliding, as in running downhill and off a cliff with a wing-chute then I don't know - that sounds a bit specialist. You're more likely to be able to do that in the UK, and more safely too. Eating? Grill place - The Greek Way, up the steps in the concrete wall in the centre of the resort, opposite the jewellers and the sign for the Akron beach bar. Gyros platters and the best cheese saganaki, along with grilled fish, octopus etc. Lunch - Petrino, a little further into the resort, look for the sawn wooden sign and a patio overhung with trees. Try the home-made cheeseburger. Lunches are better away from the cheap menus around the beaches. Also plays cool music in the evening. Fish - Alipa Fish Taverna, right down on the beach by the harbour. Simple and fresh. Spit Roasts - Spiros, right back out at the start of the resort. Also try the extra-spicy Saganaki, if you dare! Slow-roasts, stews and special sauces, great view - Belvedere, just over the hill back from the beaches. Up the hill in Lakones - Boulis Taverna on the way in, for traditional home cooking. Bella Vista out past the village for lunches with a high view. Almost forgot - meat pies or cream puffs from the small bakery beside the Apollon facing the main beach. Get them before they sell out! The only things I would ever describe as less-than-satisfactory would be (a) a €4 burger off the lunch menu in one of the seafront places (compared to the excellent one at Petrino for only €2.50, or the evening menus but then they're €8 or so for a platter) and (b) ordering a steak medium rare - they're just never fresh enough for that - how many cows has anyone ever seen on Corfu? But seriously, that's two less-than-perfect meals out of a hundred or more over the years I've been going back. That's a pretty good track record. You're really not going to go wrong. |

Thanks for the advice. Thought I might have to go to another resort for that. Will check it out when I get there. Was going to Spiros as had very good reviews on trip advisor but may try out a couple of your recommendations as well.
Only 5 days to go. ![]() |
