Hi

Just wondering how much a return taxi transfer will be in May if we book direct.  With Thomsons it is £140.

Also wondering about car hire from the airport as we intend to have a car for a few days this time.

Many thanks.

Hi,
You don't say where to, but am assuming around the Kalami area as you posted in this forum.

That price does seem excessive as my son got a return taxi from a local firm for 52€ each way last summer to Kavadades (between Sidari and Arillas) which is much further (I think).

Most car hire companies will let you collect at the airport and drop off there on your return.

Hi Wereangels

I believe local taxis were charging €55 each way last year.  Try googling taxis on Corfu or your accommodation may be able to book a taxi for you if you choose to use one.  Our car hire last year worked out at around €26 per day (over 14 days) for a 1200 cc engined car via Agni Travel.  The year before we used Value Plus based in Sidari and we'd happily use either of them again.

I guess we have to assume that whichever choice you make it will be more expensive this year than last. Petrol/diesel have gone up sharply in recent months so that is bound to have an impact.

My own view is that hiring a car does provide better value and certainly greater flexibility. I've booked a car from Value Plus for 15 days in September.

We always book a car from Value Plus, with pick up and drop off at the airport. You can get a no obligation quote from them at   info@corfucarrentals.com     just give them your dates/requirements. I think if you're planning on having a car for a few days anyway, there's not much point paying separately for a taxi. Good luck.     Moyra

Flynnmo makes the point perfectly.  It couldn't be easier or more flexible (even when returning the car).

I think I'm going to be a big boy this year and be really brave and hire a car from the airport.  Where do you pick up/drop off?

The cheapest one we have used is from Kassiopi area. There name is Alfa taxis and we have found them extremely efficient.. Only last year it cost 45 euro so with a 5 euro tip it was still less than competitors. An e-mail to them will give you a price.
Here is the link to their web site with prices (2011 guide only)

We always book a car, works out a tad more expensive than transfers but you get the benefit of having the car available for the whole holiday too with no pressure to use it every day if you don't want to and as you were going to hire a car anyway for a few days it will definitely end up cheaper

I know Value Plus are good for car hire and include fiull insurance, we have used Pangosmio for years (Economy car rental) www.pangosmio.gr.

Pangosmio also give you full insurance and have a UK telephone number for any queries or changes

Would second everyones opinions - Alfa Taxis very reliable and Value Plus excellent service and value for money. If your comfortable with driving abroad it's better value to hire, even with the petrol prices! We've just returned and petrol was approximately 1.90 euros - locals really feeling the pinch I think.

Have just returned from a week in Corfu and hired a car from Topcars. Superb service throughout including a seven minute reply to my initial enquiry on New Years Eve. 135 Euros for the week which may be a little higher in May.

We have booked a return taxi for this year, with Alfa, at a cost of 98 euros return.  We still have car hire during our stay but do not requrie a car for the full 2 weeks.

It really all depends on individual needs and how often you would use the car.

What ever you choose, have a great holiday!

We have now decided instead of paying for taxi transfers from and to the airport, it's more economical to hire a car for our 11 days in May. So, we have booked a car at a great price from Value Plus. Even if we don't use it every day, we think it will pay us in the end as we always want to visit other places on the island during our stay, especially to see Judy and the donkeys !

All those who are lucky enough to have a holiday this year, hope you all have a great time..I know we will.

Hi... Directions.

As you approach the exit of airport prepare to turn left...after about 150 yards turn right sign posted centre.. Stay on this road climbing a slight hill.after about 500 yards you will come to a fork in road (Vodafone) shop in front of you..turn left!..you will go down a slight hill for about 150 yards then turn right! You will climb a slight hill for about 180 yards you will come to a junction turn right! Almost immediately turn left (old hospital in front of you) follow this road. After a few hundred yards you will come to another fork, bear left! Stay on this road until you arrive at a set of lights bear left again. Keep sea on right! (my wife just completed this for the first time in 12years without a problem)... Very important Don't forget to BEEP your horn for NO reason whatsoever! It's the Greek way.

I think you've made the right decision Spike but as WeeMinx says it does depend on individual needs. You've had some good advice on another thread about getting away from the airport and mainly avoiding Town. You will enjoy the experience! Wink
