Hi, we are shortly off to St George South. Can anybody tell me if there are any 'proper' supermarkets around there please? We were a little spoiled in Sidari last year having 'Diellas' just down the road. I know there is Diellas and Lidl in Lefkimi but I wondered if there is anything like that around St George itself apart from the general stores. Also does anyone know if there is a bakery or butcher's shop close to or in St George? Thanks for any help.

As far as I am aware the butchers closed down a few years ago, but there is a bakery which I think is on the main road so it's a fair walk to and from there each day (please correct me if I'm wrong someone!)
I would be interested to know about the supermarket situation as well. Although we do most of our food shopping in resort it would be good to be able to stock up on route with things like water, loo rolls, cereal, ouzo etc and just use the resort shops for fresh food (and more ouzo of course)! Hi Sooz,
If you're driving from the airport there is a Lidl very close to the airport. Sure someone can give proper directions to it as I am useless.

The bakery is on the main road about a 20 minute walk, all the big supermarkets Lidl, Dimitra and Diellas are in Lefkimmi

Thanks Elliemay and Tracy, I know where the Lidl is in Corfu Town but it will be in the wrong direction, so perhaps we will be visiting Lefkimmi.

As others have said, there is a bakery on the main road (just after you take the SGS turn off). There are also a butchers and a greengrocers in Argirades, as well as a small "mini market". The large supermarkets are on the main road - one just before and two just after the turn-off for Lefkimi.

There is a Dimitra in Moriatika which you would pass on your way down, plus another one on the right after you have left the airport on the main road through towards Lefkimi. I would say it is about 15 minutes walk from the airport at a guess. At least then you could stock up on your way.

Thanks. I think we will unload our stuff at the hotel and then later drive up to the Lidl at Lefkimmi to stock up, just buying the perishable stuff in St George.

A bit of info re. the shops and supermarkets. The large bakery is on the main road right next to the turn off for St George South. The food there is excellent and very good value. (eg large pastries, sweet or cheese/ham, etc are only E1.60 and enough to call breakfast)...+ of course fresh bread and lots of very tempting cakes!
If you are wandering around Argyrades and peckish there is a little bakery shop on the main street which does a selection of pies etc with cold drinks and a few seats outside. Very nice lady runs it...about opposite the mini-market. For a big shop, Diellas on the Lefkimmi bypass has just about everything and cheaper than the supermarkets in SGS....but you need transport. There is a butchers and small wet fish counter in there as well as frozen. Also a proper butchers shop on Argyrades main road open mornings and afternoons.
