I thought there had been a small earthquake about 3am this morning but looking out my window I see this happened in the night.

I'm intrigued as to how this has happened.  Did it forget to turn right up the channel?  Hope nobody was hurt.

"That Island wasn't on my chart!"Emoticons
Also, I know that reliance on GPS for naviagtion around the Ionion isn't perfect due to differences between the old Admiralty charts and GPS charts, but that is ridiculos - I once took a GPS position, plotted that onto a paper chart and found that, in theory we were half way up a mountain!.

That is going to take some shifting, methinks!

Now, Graham, you really must stop waving lanterns from your windowWink.  Luring ships onto the rocks is illegal!

Martyn, Graham doesn't come from Cornwall, perhaps he has Cornish blood in his past life.

Does anyone know what has happened to the ship now?
Is it still there or have they moved it off the beach?

We stopped at Krouzeri (sp) bay on a day trip from Kassiopi and IT got some good photos of the ship. It is registered at Port Vila, Vanatua, but that doesn't mean anything, she could be Greek owned. The skipper of our boat reckons the person watch fell asleep so didn't change course

I understand that the ship has now been re-floated and is now anchored off the port in Corfu town.

Apparently, the hull has been breached and she is taking on water - how serious this is, I've no idea.

Hopefully no real damage in Nissaki and no evidence of oil leakage in the sea?
Beside the sea all worries wash away!!

sadly, No - but they stuck their spines in the bottom of the ship and it jumped back into deep waterLOL

Heard that the Turkish captain admitted that the crew had a party on board, loads of alchohol consumed.
He went to sleep leaving the helmsman in control.
And there's me thinking Taverna Agni had taken loads of extra bookings from the Nissaki Beach HotelSmile

Very lucky it wasn't all a lot more serious, given all the rocky approaches to a lot of the coast.

We were saying just the same. Very lucky not to have run into rocks. Whats worrying now though is I was tracking the boat last evening using this site.  http://www.marinetraffic.com  It got about 30 miles up the channel and then disappeared, never to be seen again. The site cannot find it at all. I really am hoping they just switched off their radio/transponder and that it isn't at the bottom of the deep blue sea!!!
