We're just back (stayed in Kassiopi this time) from our first visit to Corfu in 5 years.  We visited Kalami one evening and had a meal in the White House which was beautiful as always, but our beloved Cocktails & Dreams has changed.  Sam nearly jumped over the bar with excitement when we walked through the door!  I think he was glad he had some customers to talk to.  The place was empty apart from a few people sat at tables outside and there was zero atmosphere.  So very disappointing.  They have made a very big mistake.

After visiting Kalami numerous times over the last 17 years we won't stay in Kalami again as I suspect things will change even more for the worse over the next few years and it breaks my heart.  I still love Corfu and will stay in other resorts and visit Kalami to eat in our favourite tavernas, if they manage to keep afloat that is!

Natalie, your post just sums it up for all the old regulars.  We return year in year out, twice a year, because we liked things as they were but when we visited Cocktails and Dreams in June, there was only 1 couple at the bar and yes, Sam was so happy to see us and we did start a bit of a party.  (Jock was 50!)

I doubt very much that we will stay in Kalami again but will certainly return to visit our regular haunts a few nights of our holiday.  Just means that we will spend less money overall in Kalami and more in other places.

We're out in 7 weeks time but sounds like it's not the Kalami that we fell in love with, spent our honeymoon in 6 years ago and certainly not the Kalami that spurred me to write about. Friends of ours visited last year but said it was changing then. We haven't been there for 3 years after visiting 11 years in a row and we're having withdrawal symptoms, so we had to come back. But now not sure.

Like others, if it's changed too much then I'm afraid this may well be our last visit. I do wonder whether the reason for adopting the name San Antonio is to appeal to a younger clientèle because of us old codgers? Maybe they're fed up with the same old faces every year and want fresh blood? I hope not.

We only ever tended to use the C&D when the Greek dancing was on but it was nice to sit on your balcony in the evenings and listened to the Karaoke or quiz nights or just the music, knowing that by 12.30 the only sound was the lapping of the waves.

Could this be the passing of an era? Time will tell.

Hate to say it Guys but times move on I'm afraid. Many people visit for 1 or 2 weeks every year & of course expect all to be the same but the reality is that the A&A was in need of an update and the finished article is very impressive. Kalami is still here & unchanged. The tavernas are doing ok but still need your support. Think a little 'out of the box' and give San Antonio a chance or look for somewhere else in the village as there are many more places to stay. The White House has updated their apartments and also have a pool and Frosso is still there with the lovely Elia Pool Bar. Don't give up just because one place has moved on!!

I'm afraid I cannot agree with Sue Avrio. Yes, things change and yes the Adonis was in need of an update but what has been done has totally altered not just the Adonis but, to a lesser extent, the whole village. Sometimes change is made and then it seems to gather pace; in 3 years Adonis will no doubt be All Inclusive and then it will be totally unrecognisable.

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Kalami staying at Frosso apartments. I must say we enjoyed our stay and spent a number of excellent nights in C&D with Sam and Michael although at times it felt like the bar in a 1 horse town.

Next year we will be returning to Corfu, but not to Kalami. However, I've no doubt we shall still return some evenings to see everyone and enjoy an incredible meal with Nikos at the Kalami Beach Taverna.

We're back in Kalami on 7 September stopping at the San Antonio for a couple of weeks and are starting to get excited now. It will be interesting to see the changes and whether the board arrangements have had any effect on the tavernas, quite a few people ate a lot of their meals at C&D anyway. I wonder what percentage of the people staying at the San Antonio have opted for Half/Full Board as oppose to B&B. As with all change there are positives and negatives and as long as there are more positives then thats fine by me. I doubt it'll go down the all inclusive route as if you close down the tavernas and bars you essentially close down Kalami and then what would be the point in going. The place isn't big enough to offer any other sort of entertainment like the larger resorts. Anyway I'll reserve judgement till I've been back but I'm sure with the wonderful people at San Antonio and Kalami I'll have a fantastic holiday as usual. Put the Mythos on ice Sam I'm on my way

Hi Sue Avrio, in the main I do agree with you but for me personally, I will still visit my old haunts and friends in the village as there is nothing nicer than walking into a taverna and spotting someone you first met in Kalami and they still recognise you.

However, I am unsure if I will ever stay there again as I do like a bit of a party atmosphere in the evening, when on holiday and unfortunately for me, this has now gone.

Over the past 12 - 14 years or so, we have grown very fond of the staff at A & A, Stavros, Sam, Billy, Gina, Effie, Alex x 2, Michael, the list goes on but Stavros and Sam were such a double act and really kept the crowds entertained.  We missed this so much in June that most of our time was spent in Kassiopi.

I just hope that Dorina at Summer Dreams and Spiros at the Kalami bar can pick up where Cocktails and Dreams have moved over.

As I said above, I will always visit Kalami as I have too many memories to just give up but it will have to be with an open mind as, at the moment, it is not working for me personally.

Annie

It will be interesting to see where we are in a couple of years. I don't think the tavernas will change as a large portion of their income is from villas and apartments. There also seems to be a big increase in the amount of boats moored overnight with a steady stream of tenders arriving for dinner. Much of the accommodation in the village is gradually being updated and inevitably becoming more expensive. Kalami will always be great for families but I believe it will be more upmarket with less of the party feel of the old A&A.
Before people jump this is in no way a criticism of the A&A but just an opinion of how the changes feel to me.
I think most people are surprised by the new name but I met the owner earlier in the year and guess what his name is...yes it's Antonio

We've been visiting Kalami for the best part of 10 years and I can't believe why so many people are saying they may not come again partly because of the changes at Cocktails and Dreams and San Antonio. True, it has become really quiet in the evenings but just sitting outside the bar and enjoying the peace and quiet and beauty of the place is still the same, even if the clientele have changed. There's not so much entertainment but there it's still a great place to have a drink or three. There's always the Kalami bar which is usually pretty busy and lively as well (and Regina's gorgeous limoncello!)

Looking at booking a week next August/September to visit our beloved Kalami. San Antonio coming out expensive for 7 of us to stay but will definitely visit for drinks to see how things have changed.

Hi Annrose

I see its your first visit. In that case you won't be comparing San Antonio to the Adonis Asonitis (as it used to be called) and will probably love it as it is now. I believe the accommodation has been upgraded and the board basis has changed but the location, the beautiful views of the bay and the welcome from all at the San Antonio are still some of the best on Corfu.
We will never forget our first visit in October 2001 and our sheer delight as we took in the view from our apartment in block 5. I wish you a similar experience and a great holiday.

Yeah we booked it after the upgrade and have booked directly with the hotel for one of the upgraded rooms.

The resort looks like it has everything we need 😊

Great choice for a holiday Annrose and your opinions will not be clouded by what the A&A (San Antonio) was like before the upgrade.

The atmosphere is somewhat more relaxed than before, the bar used to be busy most nights, but never was a fan of the karaoke or quiz nights.

This will be my tenth year staying locally and the place is idyllic and still retains all the magic for me.
