Hi

I've been going to Psarras for the past 17 years sometimes twice a year.
I am due back this September and am a little concerned about the rubbish situation.

I was there in June two years ago and it while it wasn't very bad at the time the smell was horrendous. You could get it in some of the bar and restaurants.

I was wondering if there is anyone there at the moment who can tell me what the situation is like in Psarras, Messsonghi and Moraitika.

I'm worried if this keeps going what it will be like by September.

Thanks
B

There will be a new contract starting on August 8th when the old contract ceases for collection of the recycling waste by a private company. The municipality will be responsible for the normal waste, so this should ease the workload of the totally overworked refuse collectors.
Bit early really to say what the situation will be in September until this happens.

Thanks, I'll just have to keep an eye on it and decide nearer the time about what to do.

Suggest checking this on line news. Just put rubbish into the search.

We travelled from the airport to Kassiopi on Monday and we drove past many huge piles of rubbish at the side of the road. To date we have not seen any collections being done at all and the rubbish piles are obviously getting bigger each day. It is a very sad situation.

I am getting worried about what the situation will be like by September. I keep seeing posts about the north of the island but haven't seen anything about the Messonghi to Psarras area.
I would love to know how bad it is around here.
I am concerned about the smell and the health implications of piles of rubbish sitting about in the heat for so long.

They are definitely collecting the rubbish as I see the wagons driving through our village early morning on their way the the NW coast.
Ours are being emptied too quite regularly.

I was in Messonghi for 2 weeks at the end of May this year and the rubbish situation was terrible. The rubbish was piled high on the road near to Zacs Taverna the smell was terrible then the rubbish was collected and because it had been there so long and all the liquids HAD seeped out the area was stinking but they did come and swill the area. We left just after this so don't know what has happened since. We go back to Messonghi on September and hoping its been resolved. My guess is new visitors to Corfu this year wont be going back after seeing all the piles of rubbish.
