We're back! We had a lovely week at the A&A.
We had a ropey start as there was a tree blocking our sea view that we had paid extra for but Mara and Gina sorted it all out (they hadn't had a chance to cut it due to bad weather) - we are grateful to them for their help.
Fabulous atmosphere as always in Cocktails and Dreams - Sam and Stavros remembered us from 2008!
Lovely to see Woodie for a quick 'hello' - hope you had a lovely time in San Stef!
We wanted to eat at Agni on the Saturday night and was told the boat came at 730 and 845 so being night owls we decided to go for the later boat over but it didnt turn up
The food at The White House was amazing! Also ate at Elia's Pool Bar - fab hospitality, gorgeous crepes and gyros for when you want a light bite.
We found everything to be reasonably priced and as expected which was lovely. Went on the Simply Corfu excursion with Thomson and thought it was brilliant - saw lots of sights and different bits of Corfu and the tour guide was great.
Overall we got the Kalami Buzz again we knew it would happen! That special 'something' gets into your blood stream and you find yourself planning the next holiday before you have even left!
Met loads of lovely people in C&D but didn't tend to ask names so if we met you - thanks for a lovely time!!

Thanks for your report! The A+A sounds as good as ever! We are arriving on 18th June.. getting excited now!! Glad to hear Stavros is still around, There was talk of him going elsewhere to manage a hotel I believe. Cocktails and Dreams would not be the same without him and Sam.. looking forward to seeing everyone very soon.

Hi MazandBaz. Glad you had a great time. We are in Kalami on the 15th and were wondering if Matellas was open yet.

Thanks for that MazandBaz. Always good to hear good things about Kalami. Well done for getting in a quick hello with Woodie, always nigh on impossible to get a word in edgeways when he is around!!
On the 'paid extra for a sea view' bit, just how many room or apartments at the A&A do not have one? We have never been charged for this in the eleven times we have stayed there.

You have to phone Agni Taverna and book the boat otherwise even if it comes for someone else they may not take you

Thanks for all your replies and for making me insanely jealous that your Kalami fix is yet to come!
We did ask Gina if we should book Agni and she said it was quiet and there was no need but nevermind we popped to The White House instead which was lovely.
Hi Canarydave I am sure that when I booked with Thomson there was the option of a studio and then another option for a studio with a sea view. I remember we had a discussion about it as to whether we thought they all had a sea view anyway... so we didn't want to take any chances on missing out on the lovely view (I don't think it was that much extra but extra nonetheless) - wonder if it is a Thomson swindle? - either way I will know for next time to perhaps take the chance. The view is the thing that instantly de-stresses and chills us out - its good for the soul!!
Will update my profile pic when I get a chance.
Matellas wasn't open when we were there but I believe it will be open if not this week but very soon.

At the beginning and end of the season, the Agni boat only comes if they have bookings. So, it is best to get Gina to book a table earlier in the day.

I think there are one or two rooms at the far end of block six which only have a window and no balcony. Maybe they use these rooms as the base price. Thomson do charge different amounts for different room types. I certainly agree with you about the view and given the choice I would always pick a room with the view we all love.

Hi MazandBaz
Glad you had a great time. We've only just come back too from our little bit of paradise. As regards paying extra for a view, yes, it is a Thomson swindle. They have been doing for a couple of years now. We mentioned it to Gina two years ago as I had questioned Thomsons about it. The email I got back practically accused the A&A owners for the charge. I printed off the email and Gina passed it on to the owners who said they never charge extra as nearly all the rooms have a sea view! I think it's just another money making scheme along with dropping luggage down to 15ks knowing that hardly anybody can go without making at least one case 20ks, and getting rid of the in-flight meals because people will spend more on snacks! There is also a strong and often spoken rumour going round that they want to make the A&A all inclusive. Even Thomas had heard about it. Don't know how they'd do it but knowing Thomsons they will if they want to. That would kill off the tavernas if it happened. ![]() Let's just hope it is a rumour ![]() |

That would be dreadful. Kalami would lose its heart if A&A were all inclusive! Let's hope it is just a rumour and doesn't come to anything

Sorry to drift this topic a little off topic.SidneyLarkin
Of course Thomson are in it to make money, they are not a charity. As I stated above in thirteen bookings made through Thomson (eleven visits and two to come) I have never been charged extra for the view and always had a lovely room with a good sea view. The all-inclusive rumour is just that, a rumour. I have heard it from holidaymakers but never the staff or management. It has been going around now for several years. Nothing new in that. One of the downsides of a message board is the spreading of these rumours to the point people believe it is true. If it were to happen then it would have a significant detrimental effect on the local tavernas. I would think the A&A would oppose it too as at present they keep the profit on all food and wet sales, whereas Thomson would want their slice if all-inclusive. The A&A has a very high occupancy percentage and one of the highest return rates in the TUI group, even the mandarins and decision makers within Thomson recognise this and as long as they possess a few brain cells one would like to think they adopt the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' policy. With regard to the luggage allowance, why do people seem to want to take everything including the kitchen sink with them. The good lady Aussiebird and myself take one case weighing approx. 17k between the two of us for a week and we still come home with stuff we have not worn or used. I admit you would need a bit more for two weeks but 15k allowance per person is ample in my humble opinion. Enjoying your book by the way! Dave

I agree re the All Inclusive - it is the one thing we enjoyed during our week, choosing where we are eating everyday...
I am learning to pack less and less when we go away - Husband was very impressed with my latest packing effort and I noted all the things I didn't wear so next time I hope to be semi professional at packing!!

Back on Monday after two glorious weeks. A bit too hot for me, 33 - 38 every day so spent as much time in the pool as out of it.
Both Mara and Dorina had their babies and all was well for both of them.
As usual all staff were as great as ever and overall a great time was had by all.
Thanks guys! you know who you are.

Being totally fed up with the English summer we've just booked for our 2013 fix at the A&A and its still self catering so I think its just an horrible rumour about all inclusive and even better we've still got our 2012 holiday to come yet.

Been to the A&A last year and loved it but ... no air conditioning and our room whilst it had a fabulous view had no air conditioning and we didn't sleep for a week (even with a fan). Has anyone had a studio with air conditioning? Happy to pay extra for it but can't face the hot room saga again. Any advice appreciated.

Hi,
If no air conditioning, freeze a bottle of water and put that in front of the fan, it then blows nice cool air. Remember to pour a little water out of the bottle before freezing.

We are trying to persuade friends to come to Kalami with us and they are insistent on having air con so I checked out whilst we there (10-24/09/12) what they would need to book to guarantee air con. They would need to book an apartment for 3 (not a studio for 3) which would mean an under occupancy supplement if there were only two people in the apartment. The air con charge 'payable locally' as they say in the brochures is then €5 per day.
