Why would anybody object to tattoos and piercings?

I appreciate your concern. Topless sunbathing is accepted but I am honestly not sure of the reaction you would get to your tattoos and piercings if they were very extreme. Where are you staying?

I am not so familiar with the beaches in that area I'm afraid. As I mentioned topless is accepted but you don't see many tattoos and piercings from the Greeks so you wife may attract some curiosity. Nipple piercings and hot sun - ouch!!

Its funny how people without tattoos and piercings are offended by those that have them, but those that have are not offended by those that haven't. Hope that made sense. By the way, I have many tattoos, but just because I am a male doesn't make me any different.

Bare breasts are bare breasts, whether they have tattoos and piercings or not, they are just a part of the human anatomy and nothing to be ashamed of or disgusted by.

I will always remember my (now grown up) son aged three wandering off on the beach, I found him sitting next to a topless sunbather a few sun beds down having a quite sensible conversation about whether she had forgotten her top and if she needed to borrow one of his mummy's ! Luckily she had a sense of humour!!

I hope it did not sound as if I was offended - as I am not in the slightest. Just cannot recall seeing many multiple tattooed ladies in Corfu and therefore posting my honest opinion.

It's not the visitors who may be offended; please spare a thought for some of the older Greek residents.

I, personally, have no problem with either tatts or bare breasts, in my younger days I often bared mine; but I would hate to think that I had offended any Corfiots by doing so.

All I am saying is please use a little discretion when sunbathing topless...at the end of the day, we are guests in another country and should abide by their wishes on the subject.

I also have pierced nipples and want to go topless. Would be grateful for any info as I don't want pointed
at on the beach. Going to Benitses for first time in 8 weeks, can't wait. Lucy

Lucylou suggest going topless in one of the small coves, no problem there and plenty either side of the village- main beach in Benitses is alongside the main road and people don't particularly enjoy seeing anyone topless there - with or without additions!

So can I sunbathe topless or not on any beach? In Spain I had no issues.

You can and some do. In my opinion, where you used to see loads of women going topless, they tend to be far and few between these days? I could be wrong? Always, more in August, when the Italians descend!

The human body is rarely particularly beautiful unless you fancy the person inside it.  'Topless' sunbathing nowadays seems almost exclusively confined to overweight ladies - and this can be really offputting to others on the beach!

Luckily there are so many quiet coves around that it is easy to find one where you can bask topless and relax.

The thing you have to consider is the fact that undoubtedly there are going to be children around so go to the beaches that are well known for topless bathing.

You don't get many topless sunbathers on Agios Gordios beach anymore. The tavernas line the beach front so you may have an audience! There's always the Black Rocks area at the right hand side of the beach which is quieter.

Eat lots of the very good local food and become a size 10 prior to going home. LOL. LOL The beaches on the other side of Black Rocks could well suit your needs. A word of warning, there are no sunbeds or umbrellas available there. Black Rocks got some very good food to help boost your calorie intake. Cool

No LucyLulu - not me - many years since I sunbathed topless where anyone else can see me - but referring to most of the others who seem to want to display themselves. Actually topless seems pretty old fashioned now!

I agree with Jan, it's quite rare to see topless sunbathers now. Most of the younger people I know, daughters, nieces etc. think it's very old fashioned. A lot are even giving up on bikinis and are opting for one piece or tankinis. I think greater knowledge of the dangers of skin cancer have something to do with it. Personally I would err on the side of caution as a courtesy. Your body, but their country. Whatever, have a wonderful holiday on beautiful Corfu. Enjoy.

I heard about this a while ago, might be helpful http://www.capnbarefoot.info/ionian:corfu

Personally I tend to think if I wouldnt do it on a beach at home I wouldnt do it anywhere else but thats my personal choice.

We don't save up to go on holiday and act like we are at home what would be the point?
We go on holiday to relax enjoy the food and the sunshine and maybe let our hair down without being disgraceful to the culture.

A lot of Corfiots are offended by blatant parading topless, and sometimes bottomless.
Yes, you are on holiday but you are in someone else's country and as you quite rightly say, this has to be respected. Surely a bit of discretion as to where and when you show off parts that others may feel inappropriate to see is not too much to ask?

I've never understood why being on holiday means you get to walk around naked. At the end of the day no matter where you are its someones home!!

Personally I don't want to see it but like I said that's my choice. If that's what you want to do there are designated places to do it where you aren't going to cause offence.

Do you mind I don't want to run around naked I just asked if it was OK to sunbathe topless. Maybe you should read the question before you give your answer

That's pretty much nakedness...

And if you don't mind I did read it and provided you with the help you asked for. Both times I have stressed that this is MY personal choice. Maybe you should read my replies before you respond so rudely next time.

You're welcome by the way.

I think it's been answered several times. Do people think it's gonna be OK? In very secluded spots yes, if not very secluded no, not at all. There is a risk of offending people. Your call. It seems to me everyone on this thread has been open-minded and helpful. Maybe leave it at that? Have a lovely holiday, it's a gorgeous place that you're going xx
