These are my favourite kind of restaurants. The kind where they take you into the kitchen to see what's on that day, lift up the lids and let you choose. I've done it at Angela's in Pendati, The Rouvas in Corfu Town and for my next trip I'd like some further recommendations.

Can anyone recommend such a place? I'm thinking Old Peritheia might be an option although not where locals eat.

Bavias in Sidari - been in their kitchen many a time - open all year round and a favourite with the locals. Also Taverna Bikolis in Peroulades.

Bekios - opposite the New Port in Corfu Town. A basic grill room, but the food is excellent and great value.

Chipembele, if you like your views also, Panorama Taverna in Porta is the place to eat.  Very nice staff and food, and not pricey either.

The bonus is the view over Albania and right down to Corfu Town.  Stunning!

It's my local taverna - about 100 yards from my house.  Thoroughly recommended.

(PS - Bekios is on the right, just before you get to the ferry terminal on your left.  (Mind you, I always have trouble finding it!)

I think I'm going to attempt Bekios for lunch when I'm in Corfu Town on Saturday 23rd and Panorama in Porta on a day when I have the car. Quite a drive from Agios Gordios so will see if I'm feeling adventurous Smile

How would one get to here from Kassiopi?

Hi Gryffendor, you would head out of Kassiopi and go south. (Sea on the left) I think maybe MartynG would be the best one to advise as Ports is up in the hills but not too far. I would say around 10 - 15 minutes from Kassiopi in a car. Easy when you know how but I don't know how to explain it, sorry! If you get to Kalami you have gone past the cut off. Try looking for a sign for Vigla and Porta and you will get there eventually. Good luck!

Gryffendor, drive south (towards Town) past the Shell garage on your left, past a 2 small right turns, the next right turn is pretty obvious, more of a fork uphill, (immediately past this turn is the turn left down to San Stephanos). You need this right fork, it climbs constantly with many hairpins, a good surface all the way, Panorama Grill is on your right just before Porta village. You will have passed through a few hamlets on the way up, never fear just keep going.

Gryffendor

As Annie says, head south out of Kassiopi; the right turn up towards Porta as at the staggered crossroads in Sinies (where you turn left down to San Stephanos.  Head up through the hamlets of Agnitsini and Kokkini past the turnings to Vigla and Tritsi and you eventually get to Porta.

The Panorama is on the right (it stands high alongside the road) just before you enter the village on a right hand bend.

If you have a look at Google Streetview it should help.

I would say that it's a good 20 minute drive from Kassiopi (it takes me 15 minutes from San Stephanos and I know the road like the back of my hand)

If I can help further, please come back to me

Martyn

If you do go to Panorama, take your binoculars with you, on a clear day, early evening is good, you look right down into the Boutrint valley, you can see Mursi with its mosque minaret in the far distance, the villages of Vrine', Shendeli and Xarre' are in the plain, you may be in luck and see the floating pontoon ferry crossing the river towards the Ottoman fort on the headland.
By the way, we like to visit Nautilus Restaurant and Bar in Corfu Town, its on Leoforos Dimokratis and Theotoki, right round the bay from Old Fort, its next to the Windmill. Great place to people watch.
Bob.

I'm thinking I should probably stick with Angela's at Pendati again. It looks like Porta is around an hour and a half drive from me which would take a big chunk out of my day. I will go there if I visit that area for any other reason.
