Confused
Where are there places to park a car for a day visit.

We want a whole day and the buses or trips from the north of the island do not give us long enough to visit or experience everything.

Have a map but where are they and what time do we need to be there by in order to guarantee a parking space?

Thanks

Whenever we go we always park on the cricket ground car park 3 euros a day .. but dont be afriad to get in the queue to get on it may take up to 30 minutes to get on but worth the wait as your centre for everything.
The car parking on the street around that area can be a pain and going for a ticket if you leave the car unatended could be expensive as the traffic cops are on the ball.
We now go early evening  (well after 4 pm) these days as the town can be excessively hot in the afternoon in July/August/September and everything is still open.
People watching too in the evening on the Liston is better too, locals not tourists enjoying the area.
Cumphy shoes a must if you going all day is highly recommended and plenty water .
Exploring the side streets  good too, but, when buying get into the side streets for bargins dont buy at your first shop, prices varies buy 5 euros for the same goods once your inside the town.
Eating too varies so much too...

Beer from 5 euros on the Liston to 2 euros in a more intimate taverna in a side street, food the same and to be honest all the food is good..
Just enjoy
WE DO

Brian we have parked on the street before but thought you only had to pay if you actually went into the car park. If so we have been lucky not to get clamped or something!!

Knightstone, comeing fom the north I would  sudgest that you try either the car park on the left just past the Port, next to the domestic port. If full, just a few hundred metres further on there is a car park on the right hand side, it looks like a temporary parking place, in May there was a sandwich board pointing it out. Further on into Town there is the old port car park, now much smaller than previously, but you need to be there very early to be given a place.
If you are going shopping check out early closing days.

Hi there is a carpark on the right, just before the port and the new fort - it's quite big and not usually full.  It is, however, a bit of a walk into town (through the bus station) and it brings you out in San Roccoo square.

Last time we used it (June) there was no one in the kiosks so, free parkingEmoticons

Another place is on the street which leads up to town past the new marketplace. It comes out just by Marks and Spencer so again quite central. The turn off is second right after the port you have to go up there as you can't go straight on. There are attendants throughout the day who come to you and you say how long you want. If you go later on in the day chances are the attendants have gone so its free! We got there at 7.30ish last Saturday evening and there was no one there and no cars parked so we got right up by the new marketplace. The later you leave it the busier it gets though.
enjoy what you can when you can!

You can park on the sea-front once you pass the Liston area  (by the large hotel) before the road heads out of town towards the airport.  We have always managed to find a space and there does not appear to be a parking charge.

So if I find a space to park on the road (as in July) near the cricket pitch/Liston then where should we go to pay for the ticket? Maybe we were just lucky but honestly thought it was free unless you are in the official car park!!!

There is a booth about half way up the street with a parking attendant. Slightly cheaper than going into the car park itself.
Btw, you don't pay in the afternoon when the shops are closed.  Times when charges are in force are on plates along the street.

Jules  I am sure that once you go beyond the green park out of town the parking is free. If you are on the road that surrounds the park and bandstand (goes past the cricket pitch along the seafront and then turns right toward the Cavalieri Hotel and  back towards the front of the Liston) this needs a ticket. Hope this makes sense!!

By the way, no day  in Corfu Town is complete without visiting the rooftop terrace of the Hotel Cavalieri-amazing 360 degree views of the town-fabulous, especially at the magic hour, just before the sun starts to fade.
