Hi
We are off to Corfu for the first time at the end of August and staying at the Paleo Inn in Paleokastritsa - any advice on bars, restaurants, boat trips, bus services etc or even about the Paleo Inn most welcome.  So looking forward to spending 2 weeks there - the island looks gorgeous !Smile

Approve The Paleo Inn is very basic but comfortable and clean. Good sized swimming pool and very friendly staff at the bar. The owner, Andeas, is often found serving at the bar and Spiro is a gem. We have tried many of the tavernas in Paleo and never found a bad one yet. There is a small "beach" 5 minutes walk away down some steps [Agios Triada] where there is a bar and swimming pool. Loungers and umberellas are available to rent. The main beaches are about 20 minutes walk away. There is only one road in/out of Paleo, so you are either going away from or to the beach [out of the hotel, turn right to the main beach etc etc]. There is only a very few shops selling anything other than seaside equipment! I would recommend hiring a car if you can so you can get out and about. There is only one bus service into Corfu Town and runs roughly every 2 hours. There are a good few bars, The Petrino next door and a new bar the other side called The Pergola. The Tango bar is popular.

Paleo is very laid back and providing that is the sort of holiday you want, you will not be disappointed,  many return year after year [including us! Big smile]

Only 12 sleeps to go to Paleo [again!!!]  Thumbs Up
It's all Greek to me!

I would also recommend Faros Pool Bar, great during the day with a lovely pool, bar snacks, free beds around the pool, great for relaxing.

Also on a Saturday night they have BBQ night with Greek Music and Dancing.

You will find it on the right hand side on the way to the main beach.

Check it out here: http://mariastudios-faros.com

Mike.

I’m not completely useless, I can be used as a bad example.

Yes the island is gorgeous, Faros has a superb bbq, a real fun night. The Belvedere is great with a fab view and a cosy bar, the Dolphin is also lovely, as is the Nerides. In Corfu town I would try Rouvas for lunch its just round the corner from M&S looks like a transport cafe from the outside but is fine inside and the food is really authentic as they cater mainly for the local lunchtime trade. Have a great time
its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

Hi everyone

Many thanks for all your advice and suggestions.  Seems like we have chosen the best spot on the island!!  I am counting the days now - we arrive at night so we'll wake up to the most spectacular views!  A work colleague has just come back from Corfu and informs me that many ATM machines have been closed - sign of the times and such a shame.  On a lighter note its brilliant to see that people return back to Paleo - the whole area looks beautiful. I have looked on the 'bliss' website so have a good idea of the layout.  Hopefully we'll be able to hire a little boat so visit the nearby coves (something I have never done before!) and no doubt there are boat trips out and about from the larger beach.  We have booked a day trip with Thomsons to see 'Parga and Paxos' and also the 'Corfu by night' although we hope to visit the town on the local bus ourselves - don't like to be too organised and its fun exploring.  My first experience of Greece was last year when we went to Rhodes and stayed in Pefkos.  Corfu appears to be much greener and not so spoilt.  Hope to do some snorkelling - looks ideal.
Thanks again everyone! Any more suggestions/ideas most welcome (never been on a forum before!!)

There are 2 ATMs in Paleo, both of them were working when we were there last month.

Big smile  We are staying opposite the Paleo Inn until 1st September with 2 grandchildren in tow to 27th August. As we often visit the bar for a Mythos or 3 and get insulted by Spiro, if you think its me, say hello.
I'm not too proud!!! Wink

Hi Treyarnongirl

I stayed in Pefkos some years ago-pretty little resort, but wait till you see the views in Paleo!
You're right that Corfu is a much greener island than Rhodes, which I found oppressively hot when we were there in July.
I think you'll find you've made a good choiceThumbs Up

I hope you have a lovely time...I know you will. Paleo is just amazing. As you can guess from my name I'm a bit of a fan LOL. I have been all over Greece and I think this is my 30th time in Paleo (twice for the last 15 years!!!) and the views still take my breath away.

The Paleo Inn is in a great location for exploring. There are loads of nice places to eat and you will quickly find the gems that become your favourites.

When are you going? I'm there 6th September for 2 weeks- if you are there pop into the Odysseus or the Belvedere to say Hi. Tongue
I can close my eyes and see Paleo but it's not the same.........Roll on my next trip.

Another recommendation is The Horizon, next door to Belvidere.  We also like Nausica-we first ate there in 1981.
Way back then, we spent most nights in Faros, although we didn't always eat there. At that time, it was the unofficial disco of Paleo, and far busier that Paleo Disco on the outskirts of the resort that is no more.
Stephanos, who does boat trips now, was one of the waiters with Vangelis and others, and they did Greek dancing and later chart music till the early hours-happy memories!

By the way, Stephanos is Magda from Aphrodite's brother-she used to work on reception at the Oceanis Hotel.

There's a nice little place right next door to the Paleo inn, I think it's called Petronis. Its all in the shade of trees, great if you want to cool down with a cold Alpha beer, tasty food as well. Thumbs Up

We've stayed in the studios behind Petrinos, kept immaculately by his mother Vangelia.
They do lovely snacks and her son is a really nice guy.

Hi everyone!
Wow so many positive comments - a BIG thank you!!!  Paleo comes across as being somewhere that gets under your skin so you just have to return and this is the best recommendation ever!! 'Paleogirl' you must feel like a native!!  I used to be a great fan of Alcudia in Mallorca during the 80's returning year after year, in fact in the end I lived out there for a few years until it became commercialised and then moved around the Canary Islands before returning to England in 1995 and haven't returned since. My first 'Greek' experience was last year when we went to Rhodes and I just loved it - the people are so welcoming and open. Corfu looks fantastic and  I'm now on count-down mode - 10 working days for me  (though maybe I should be counting the hours now instead!!!).  My bags are semi packed already...  though we don't fly out till 31st! I just want a laid back holiday, lots of swimming, a little sightseeing, and evenings spent relaxing in  a little taverna ...my idea of heaven.Smile
