I was at Jimmy's Taverna in Pagi (near Agios Georgios NW) the other day and he was telling me about the filming of the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only. Apparently the car chase was filmed in and around Pagi so I thought I'd post a link to it on here. Roger Moore's Spanish sounds quite out of place but it's good seeing the Citroen passing Jimmy's bar in the movie. The whole area is well worth a visit incidentally. Agios Gergios NW has a beautiful sandy beach with just enough tavernas and Pagi is beautiful. If you fancy seeing one of the best sunsets on the island go up to Afionas, you'll be glad you did.

Some was filmed there but most scenes were shot at Agios Georgios south on the sand dunes- and in Danilia Village (then a flourishing tourist evening out destination masquerading as a Greek village!)

And the on the boat scene at the beginning of the movie was shot in the Corfu channel, Kalami can be seen in the background.
We've had a couple of lunches (Three Brothers I think it was, sat on the verandah out the back) up at Afionas but not been up there in the evening so far. The views are lovely during the day, the sunset must be quite something.

James Bond enthusiasts often travel to Jimmy's cafe in Pagi from all over the island to see where the collision with the bus was filmed. Jimmy or Eleni his wife will show anyone a short video of the scenes.
Last week when we visited a Belgian couple who are staying at Messonghi in he south of the island told me they had driven all the way there deliberately to find the '007 cafe'!!!

Had a nice meal in Dionysys Taverna overlooking St Georges beach a few days ago.
Some lovely little houses in Afiones with courtyard gardens, has to be one of our favourite little villages

Both 'Jimmy's' and 'Hari's' now serve some food including salads. We often ask for toasted sandwiches to take out so we can picnic on our favourite walk across to the valley road
Last week we were chatting outside Jimmy's with an elderly Dutch couple who were staying near Messonghi. They had read in some literature at their hotel in Messonghi about Jimmy's James Bond cafe and his Greek salads so drove all the way up to Pagi especially. They liked it a lot and said next year they will stay in Agios Georgios! Dennis |

If visiting Corfu Town there is a taverna (I think called Sofia's ?) not far from St Spyridonis's church and at that time next to a jewellery shop which Roger Moore and the crew of the filmset ate there when the film was being made. The owner has many pictures and albums of that occasion and proudly tells you all about his visits.

Pagi Village does have two Cafes, but Haris is now run by new people called Dimitri and Matoula Romeos and is called ROMEOS CAFE. The café is now beautiful, and the perfect place to stop for refreshments after the long walk up hill from Ag.Georgios Bay. Matoula is an excellent cook and if you would like to taste Fresh, Home made, Traditional Greek food, both Sweet and Savoury, this is the place to try. Dimitri and Matoula always make you feel special and you will find one visit will never be enough.

As discussed above, much of the location content of the movie was shot on Corfu. Apart from the Pagi shots, there are also scenes from the old? fort in town.
The bus clip, careerering down the "Spanish" hillside, is of course Pagi.

Even as a kid who'd never been abroad, I could tell that was Greece, not Spain.
The other obvious one is the raid on the supposed Albanian port that's really the Corfu yacht club below the old fortress - the clock tower is clearly visible as they approach. But then it's full of jarring cuts, like the view of the Vlacherna monastery (in Kanoni) from the casino terrace (Achellion palace miles away) whereas the casino interior was back in town. |
