Forgive my ignorance but after reading a topic on the old forum, the above got a mention. Can you tell us what does this consist of? All the times we visited Paxos, never saw one advertised.

Mickandy,
They never seem to be the same twice! We go to a place on the Liston in Corfu Town and the ouzo meze always consists of some chips, sausage, cheese, salami and olives. Other places may have some cheese, tomato and ham. It is not always advertised in kafenions or bars. You may have to ask for it. Trisa

Hi,
I remember going to my next door neighbours in Corfu for his sons birthday and when asked what I wanted to drink, requested an ouzo. Wife sent smartly inside to prepare a platter of sardines. Firmly told I was not allowed to drink ouzo without the accompanying meze!

We go to the Olympia on the Liston for ours whenever we go into town. Keeps us going until supper. I've become quite addicted to ouzo as well. Can't wait until the end of May.

Well I don't like ouzo myself but my husband does. So if I ask for a vodka sprite (lemonade in UK but in Greece has to be Sprite as it is the nearest) what will I get? Just a thought have they heard of lemonade in Corfu Town as Paxos never has any? Last year we paid 12 Euros for 1 vodka sprite and 1 ouzo and got a few peanuts in Paxos. This is why my question was asked about ouzo meze.

The Olympia ouzo meze was only six euros, good value especially for the Liston.
Might have gone up now?

Ellenjay,
It has gone up slightly but it's still under €7 for two ouzo mezedes. Cheaper than two coffees. A bargain!

Although very partial to a drop of ouzo I've never tried an ouzo meze...but I'll put that right by visiting the Olympia in April.
Thanks guys and gals!

I remember a couple of years ago ordering an ouzo meze at the taverna in Koloura. Cost about 50 cents more than an ouzo and included prawns, octopus etc. Fantastic value.

Eileen, if you are planning on eating out in the evening, an ouzo meze at the Olympia between 12 and 2pm is a really good, cheap substitute for a light lunch! You get the people watching thing thrown in for free! Trisa

Thanks Trisa it sounds perfect then. In Arillas in April there aren't many places open so we usually eat in most nights, but usually make up for it by having lunch when out and about elsewhere on the island. |

Just reading about the ouzo mezes. I love ouzo so hope I'll be able to order an ouzo meze for a light lunch in Ag Gordios. I wonder if they do them anywhere there?
By the way, we will be coming to Corfu town at least once during our holiday. Where in relation to the cricket green is the Olympia please?

The Olympia is oppersite the cricket field about halfway along the Liston. We didn't manage to get to town in June but hope to in September so will certainly be having an ouzo mezze for lunch. I've never had an ouzo mezze in A.G. but that doesn't mean they won't do one for you. When we had our coffee at Poseidonia we were usually given a little titbit and one day it was the most delicious cherry cheese cake.
