    Posted: 31 Jul 2012 at 10:42am

Monday – Up at the unearthly hour of 3:20 to leave home dead on 4. We leave dead on 4.30!  Arrive at Brizzol Airport and queue for all of ten minutes at check in. Flight on time and makes up time. – which is why Greece at 2 hours in front of us I guess. This year I’m being a big brave boy and have hired a Peugeot 5008 (I didn’t know what it was either)  Arrive in Kalami and the Alkinoos Villas.  Changed & a much needed cooling off. An early evening meal at Thomas’s place is in order as we’re all starving!

Tuesday – We ring my father up, who is 80 today and sing/wish him happy birthday only to discover I dialled the wrong number! It’s going to be a tough day by the pool today, but I have to do my chores first of getting the morning bread & supplies. Book up an evening trip to Corfu Town.  Kalami Beach Taverna is the choice of venue for evening meal. The girls force us to go to the Cocktail & Dreams bar for the quiz – 10/10 in the music round!!

Wednesday – My birthday!! We take the girls to a sandy beach for the day and drive up to Roda, first time back since 1989, didn’t recognise any of it. Must have been out of my trolley that day…  We have fun of the beach playing bat and ball, building sand-castles a bite to eat then back to playing sand castles and building bat and ball. The sea is warm and inviting! Our choice of evening meal is the White House – The Obamas weren’t in but we still had an excellent meal (Pork with feta cheese -  unbelievably good) Also on the menu was crepes with CRASHED biscuits. I wonder if they bag them up and throw them against the wall??

Thursday – Another tough day by the pool. We wonder around the corner to pick the boat to Town up at 4:50 and arrive in Corfu town. The lady says ‘Do not stand up until the boat has docked’ So what do people do? Stand up and start queuing to get off!  (why do people do that? Why do they do on the plane as well?) She soon barks out further orders for people to return to their seats. The town is full of life this evening, brass band, a local gymnastic club with a drum band and a choir – the place is really buzzing but can’t help thinking how quite it is compared to other years. We eat at a place tucked away from the main drag only to be served by a man who is a cross between Sid James and Engelbert Humperdink. The menu offers a JAM & Bacon Pizza! Didn’t see that coming did you Jamie Oliver!! For the first time ever my wife doesn’t need a handbag! I’m in shock.  Instead she’d like some jewellery. She finds a very nice bracelet for around 140 euros, I offer to pay in cash and pay 85! The money is snatched out of my hand and pocketed before we have time to blink. We have to visit a chemist for ear-drops as once again Alyssa is suffering.

Friday – Up early, so Ceris, whose idea of getting up late is 8 o’clock I go for a walk. We buy some bread, doughnuts and some juice and sit on the beach having a pre-breakfast snack sat on the beach with hardly a soul around. Sheer bliss.

Saturday – A very lazy start to the day and head off to Kassiopi for brunch and a little more shopping. Today I have decided not to lead or suggest anything I am in the hands of the others. About time they did that!! We find a table near the waters edge for brunch - There’s a cooling welcomed breeze coming off sea as we eat. he girls spend some of their money on water blasters for the pool. A welcomed ice cream is required and eaten. We do a small shop in the supermarket for essentials and return home. After our evening meal the girls want to par-take in the karaoke at Cocktail & Dreams – both get up and sing! Very proud of both of them. Ceris (7) sings Lady Gaga and Alyssa (9) does the one that goes Ella Ella under my umbrella (what ever happened to lyrics like she loves you yeah yeah yeah??)

Sunday – Our last day.  Boooo! We head to the beach this morning for early morning swim. A quick bite to eat then the packing of cases, I’m sent out to buy gifts and things to take home. Our final evening meal in Kalami is at the White House.

Monday – Drive back to the airport in under an hour – where is the traffic this year?? And finally home.
