Someone has given us an old but unopened ceramic bottle of Metaxa Grand Olympian Reserve. I remembered having a very similar bottle at least 30 years ago and so Mike has been doing some research on it. He's just done a search in Google images and whilst scrolling down the photos of various different bottles he suddenly came across one of me! Turned out, when he clicked on the link to visit the page, that it was a thread about Metaxa dating back to 2005 in the old Agni forum and the photo was my avatar at the time!

What an amazing surprise to have Google associate me with my favourite drink

Very nice Elaine! Once you've polished it off, you'll be able to decant what you bring back this year into it!

I love looking back on the old forum!

It doesn't look like I'm going to get chance to even taste it Helen    The nearest we can find to it was produced in the 1990's and is on sale for £144, whereas ours is marked as a 1988 Centenary edition, so I should think it's worth even more than that    The friend who gave it to us wouldn't have a clue about its value, so Mike has insisted (and I've reluctantly agreed) that we do the right thing and give it back to him.

Gosh!! I thought it would be a lot more than a 3* 5* 7* but I had no idea it would be that much! Almost a sin to drink it!

I wonder if your friend will sell it. He obviously isn't going to drink it, I'd have thought if he liked Metaxa he would have drunk it by now. How did he come to have it in the first place, do you know?

Maybe he will let you have it for a good price, a very, very good price! After all he nearly didn't have it at all!

The question is: could you drink it now you know its worth? Mmmm...I would!! Special occasions and rare summer warm nights!!

Let us know what does happen to it.

Well, Mike took it back to our friend Nev when they met up for their weekly drink and he was absolutely gobsmacked when he was told what we'd found out! He used to travel all over Europe for work many years ago and this was just one of many Duty Free purchases that had taken his fancy at the time, but ended up in his loft.

Whilst they were sitting in the pub garden a man came over and asked what it was, so Mike told him what we knew. A few hours later we got a phone call from our friend. After Mike left, the man came back over and had been googling on his phone. He had found out that he could probably get about £20 for the empty bottle alone and offered Nev £100 cash on the spot for it, which he gladly accepted! So everyone is happy - we got a couple of bottles of ouzo and a lesser Metaxa that he'd also turned up during his loft clearance and Nev got £100 for something that had been gathering dust for years and which he was going to give away for nothing

Sadly not Helen, but Nev does have a very big loft, so I still live in hope of more of his finds

One of my friends on the dating site was collecting exotic drinks. I think his collection costs a fortune and the value is only growing with time. I am not a big specialist in drinks, so it is difficult for me to evaluate the potential value of such bottles. By the way, have you ever dated online https://datehookup.dating/apps/hookups-irish/? Do you think you can really find a partner there?
