As we have for the first time, booked flights with Easyjet, and on-line, does anyone know if they provide luggage labels for you when checking in, or do you 'do it yourself' before leaving home?

Hi Pam,
No they don't provide luggage labels, just the usual sticky labels showing your flight. We have plastic luggage labels that we use all the time, only put our forwarding address in them, but they are sealed anyway, so not showing an obvious address. Don't, whatever you do, put you home address on when travelling out. Leaves you open to thieves if they so wish.
Hope this helps. Smile

Many thanks Elliemay for the info. I have bought my own labels but wondered what exactly to put on them. When we have travelled in the past, the tour operator provided you with their own labels, so I did not know if Easyjet would provide some.
I know you never put your home address on, but what info do you need for example?
Name, flight number, departure airport, arrival airport?

Hi Pam,
We just put the address of where we are going as the rest of the information is on the sticky labels that the airline put on.

Hi Pam,

I always down load these,  and laminate them..one lot for going, one lot for the return.

On the return flight I just put ..flight number plus email address.

I used to work in a travel agency (a very very long time ago) and we would do luggage labels for our customers and put them in with their tickets but with the internet this is hardly done now and I notice many airlines/holiday companys don't provide labels until the check in desk.   I still like to put something on or in the case in addition to this I must admit.

For the outbound we would put surname only (no title or forename to identify if male female etc), flight number, date of travel, accommodation name and resort name.

For the return flight we used to put surname only (no title or forename to identify if male female etc), house number and postcode (not full address), flight number, date and destination airport.

I still pretty much stick to this format today.

We do similar to as Laniepetal but use mobile number rather than address now for return journey and hotel/apartment name and address for outward one. I am not sure the labels tied on at check-in are full enough so I also always tie on my own ... one outside and now one inside and one outside in case the case goes missing and the label has become detached. There have been several stories on Forums recently of baggage going missing or people walking out of the airport with wrong cases  and causing a real mess up.  Lables are so cheap so what is a few minutes to be sure to get your baggage.

Hi Pam

With regards to luggage labels they are in fact not required any more, hence why they are rarely provided.

When you check in for any flight with any airline, you will notice that it is tagged by the check in assistant, in the form of a long sticker looped around the handle. What this information holds is your details (as you would have provided when booking) and destination etc and is in the form of a barcode. If your luggage is lost they simply scan it and see where it needs to go. If a case goes missing, no one will look at the tag the traveller has used, they will only use the tag that the airline has used.

Obviously though, it comes down to personal choice. I never use a luggage tag now. My parents always do. It all comes down to what you feel more comfortable with. To help your case stand out from the rest, you could get the luggage straps or tie coloured ribbon to your case to make it noticeable on the belt!

If you have any other questions I would love to be of assistance. Smile

Regards

Simon

Hi Simon,

What happens next if the tag you mentioned is one of the hundreds you see stuck to the rubber flaps of the carousel..Big smile

Hi Bruce Smile

I see exactly what your saying, but if your sticker has made it on to the carousel then it has made it to the destination that you are travelling to, so its not lost, your case just needs identifying. Hence why I mentioned other options such as the bright coloured luggage straps that go around the suitcase and usually have your surname printed on it or perhaps coloured ribbon around the handles. Wink

Bruce,

Im sensing some sarcasm from yourself? Not sure why?

To quote you again;
'What happens next if the tag you mentioned is one of the hundreds you see stuck to the rubber flaps of the carousel'
..Then what do you actually require your own luggage tag for? To identify your suitcase?  There are many better ways to identify a suitcase then your own luggage tag with your name, address and telephone number on it?
If your implying (though what you said isn't) that the suitcase in question is lost then I can tell you how the suitcase will be found and the owner established.

Not sure what you are trying to get at, but back to what Pam was asking, there is no need to attach your own luggage lables, only through personal choice.

No Simon,  I wasn't trying to get at anything and theres no need to quote me again because I remember what I said.

When I said " Now why didn't I think of that Simon..yep if my case is on the carousel.. job done" thats what I meant.

So as far as I'm concerned you can sense what you like, but I wasn't being sarcastic, what I was saying is your correct because if my case was on the carousel it didn't matter where my tag was did it, ....didn't you notice the little Smiley like this at the end >>>Clap

Hi Bruce Smile

Hope you are well today!

Thanks for your reply again. The hand clap smiley did seem a little sarcastic, perhaps I interpretated that wrong so my apologies there.

Simon Big smile
