Hi,
A bit of help needed. We are looking for quiet resort on Corfu and Liapades seemed to fit the bill till I read a posting that there is music bar that you can hear till 4 a.m. in morning, the posting was in 2010, is this place still active. We were looking at coming around May/June 2013 and really want quiet we usually holiday on Halki or Symi they are very quiet but thought about a change.

Hi Aegina, we've been to Liapades twice now and absolutely love it. Going again in September. Didn't hear Shambala in June as it hadn't opened this year, but did for one night last September when the school children had a party before school opened but it finished at 12.00pm. We stay at the Liapades Beach Hotel which we think is great. Take a look on Tripadvisor for my comments. I'm lakones. The one thing I can say is that you need to be reasonably fit as it is very and I mean very hilly. I think I'm right in saying there are only five actual tavernas going up the steep hill to the village and we've eaten in all but the Village Taverna and they are all excellent. We stay at Liapades Beach because it has a taverna attached called The Cricketers, good food at great prices. We have been going to Corfu once or twice a year for eleven years and found the prices this year as cheap as they have ever been with the exchange rate being so good at the moment. It is a very quiet place, but the village is still typically greek with a huge plane tree in the village square and a kafenion run by an English lady married to a Greek who makes a great coffee and the walk up through the olive groves has some wonderful views over to Paleo and the Ropa valley. Hope this is useful to you.

Thanks for this information it was what I hoped for so I will not be put off by Shambala. I can see it will be very hilly we have stayed in Paleo before it was nice but to much tourism so lately been going to Halki and Symi for quiet but ferries getting to be a bit of a drag, flights never match ferries Symi is very hilly too and Kala Strata is something else after being at harbour in evening, think I read 462 steps up well felt every one of them but now looking forward to walking up through olive groves in Liapades and having ouzo up in village. I have a couple of prices for apartments so OK there just waiting on flights going on sale with Easyjet, not dure how much they will be but will be cheaper than T Cook and Monarch I expect. One of apartments throws in taxi transfer this will be handy for us being first timers to area.. thanks again for your info.

Glad to be of help Aegina. Spiros, at The Liapades Beach Hotel also throws in the taxi transfer. We go from East Midlands and have now found that Ryanair go to Corfu and it's a lot cheaper than the other carriers so we hope to go again in September. I've just had an ouzo in the garden and tried to imagine I was on the balcony in Liapades! Didn't work really. Do look on the website for the Beach Hotel it will give you an idea of the surroundings down by the beach.

Thanks Kaytee, checked hotel site too and yes it looks good and has given me feel for the place but when I go to Greece I prefer self catering as like to try different tavernas, although I will look again at hotel when I get flight info from Manchester. I think only budget carrier from there is Easyjet, I have never used them before. I try the ouzo in garden trick, I make it as a long drink with orange and its refreshing but still does not get me on Halki. I have checked out all on Liapades -bliss site got plenty pics there but info in forum not as up to date as you have given me. I hope to get flight when I come back from September holiday and get to Liapades end of May. Really what I want is a place like Liapades where only flight and taxi transfer required as finding when ferry involved too it makes it such a long day.

Glad I'm being helpful!! Liapades Beach hotel has selfcatering apartments too. We have just booked flights with Ryanair for the middle of September and they were a lot cheaper than anyone else, that's from East Midlands, maybe you could use that airport depending which side of Manchester you are. I don't find the bliss sight very good, very out of date. Hope you find somewhere to stay, keep in touch as we go at the end of May usually.

We are first time visitors coming beginning of April 2013. I am handicapped (walking slowly with a cane, no hills and very slow on stairs). Planning to stay at Medusa Studios. Any one familiar with this place? Any access difficulties, etc.?
Thanks |

I don't know the studios you mention but as said earlier in this thread, Liapades is very hilly. Just to get to the village square is quite a climb. It's a very traditional village though and well worth a visit.
It may be better for you to consider a village or resort somewhere more accessible. I'm sure someone on here will be able to point you in the right direction. Also you may want to consider somewhere with all year round facilities as the beginning of April will still be very quiet with many places in resorts not yet open for the season.

Hi,
You would probably be better off staying somewhere like Acharavi which is relatively flat and also a year round village as it is the capital of the north of the island where banks, accountants etc are based so quite busy with all the locals going about their business. Just a thought.

I wrote to the owner/manager to find out if they have automobile access to the apartments. His response will be the deciding factor for me. We are hoping to find a quiet place that is reasonably priced in the off-season (not more than $330/month) as we are looking for a place to keep coming back to year after year. With a rental car we can/hope to be able to cover the entire island.

Hi Dafnordad, I agree with the info the other folks have given to you. The Medusa studios are lovely but Liapades is very very hilly. I'm relatively ablebodied but find the first few days quite taxing, I get better as the holiday goes on! We are going back to the Liapades Beach hotel soon which has its own taverna but doesn't have a lift, although there are ground floor rooms. it's still on the steep hill but if you only go out in a car it probably would be OK. The walk down to the beach, about 100yards is very steep. Take a look on the hotel website and you can see how hilly it is. Prices there are very reasonable and include breakfast. Maybe Kassiopi would suite as it is flat around the harbour. Best of luck.

Well Kaytee I did book but not for May as I planned but for 3 weeks in September2013 at Akis studios (still to confirm but flight booked). Every time hills are mentioned I cover my eyes, but I have managed Symi with Kala Strata etc and it was hilly too, also Paleo, so I think with walking poles should be OK. The place looks very nice so a little pain to start with should be worth it. Thanks for all info

Yes the Akis do look nice and have a lovely pool if I've got the right ones. A little bit farther up the hill too. I'm sure you will love it, we go again next week and by the look of the weather forecast for the next ten days it's going to be hot and warm in the evenings.

Hope weather holds up for you, we are heading to Majorca in a couple of weeks, I never usually go anywhere in season bar Greece but so much carry on about Greece 18 months ago I booked this one, still got a great price for AI north of island. Next year back to Halki in May and Liapades September so normality returned..

We had a great holiday and the weather apart from two storms at night was perfect. We looked at he Akis, it's on the bend opersite Shambala, which we have never seen open yet! There is one but and that's the long flight of steps up to the studios but the view is wonderful. Try the little taverna, Arias across the road, only small, but the food is delicious. We are hoping tobe back for Easter in the village, that's if we can arrange flights. Enjoy Majorca.

Thanks for that info, glad you had great time but it would seem the norm for there, I was fine in Majorca but missed Greece. Well hope there is less than 100 steps, I just did over 300 steps up to a church (glad there was a small bar beside the church!!!), this did not do my knee any good but then again on Kala Strata on Symi we did over 400 and got used to it by end of two weeks so I am still looking forward to my three weeks in Liapades in September. The views mean so much when relaxing on balcony with a Mythos.

Not sure how many steps but it will be worthwhile. We are hoping to go for three weeks taking in Easter with our Greek friends if we can get a flight around 2nd May but it's not looking good at the moment. We could travel down to Gatwick but it's a long journey from Rolleston-on-Dove! Think there might be an Easyjet from Manchester but we do prefer East Mids as it's only down the road so to speak. You do get used to the hills after a couple of days.

I have always fancied going to Greece for Easter but will not be this year as I do not get home from Turkey till end of March then out to Halki end of May, then its September for three weeks in Liapades. There is flights that could suit you ex Manchester if going for three weeks it would be cheaper going week earlier than Easter then have remainer of time after Easter like go out on 26th April and return 18th or 20th, these flights with Easyjet.
