Who can remember staying at this hotel back in the 80's?  It was my first visit to Corfu and I didn't know what to expect.....it had it's good points and it's bad points!  The swimming pool was fantastic and the poolside buffets excellent.

I travelled with Thompsons Freestyle and although it was a little wild for me (being at the upper end of the age range) we had some really good times.  Fantastic beach BBQ at a taverna in Barbati, scary memories of the coach driver leaving the wheel and dancing in the aisle whilst still moving! Really!  Hawaiian evening where everyone wore grass skirts made out of the beach mats that were on sale everywhere.

Again, another evening, this time the rep's cabaret where I was the only one on our table who would sample the liver soup!Dead

But.....what made the holiday for me was the Grand Island Tour (booked on the last day when we had to vacate our room and find something to do until silly o'clock the next  morning for the flight home).  It opened up parts of the island for me where I longed to spend more time than the tour allowed.  Two years later I returned and the rest is history.  This year will be my 13th visit to a wonderful island.Big smile
..roll on July!

We haven't stayed at the Ipsos Beach Hotel but have spent many happy holidays in Ipsos back in the good old days when you stayed in village rooms and didn't have either a swimming pool or air conditioning included in your package holiday! Those were the days!

We remember great times when we would call into the No Problem Bar for one night cap but then stayed until the sun came up because we didn't want to be the first couple to leave! And we would walk up to the Panorama Bar in Agios Markos to look at the fab views over Dassia/Ipsos/Barbati and beyond (and have a glass or two of the home-made moonjuice!)

I could go on and on about the great times we've had in Ipsos so I'd better stop now!

We made many good friends there and still call in to visit them when we're in Corfu.

Rita

We haven't stayed at Ipsos Beach either but do remember staying at Vasilis at the back of Pyrgi village (for the peace and quiet away from the bars - didn't take into account owners dog, noisy cockrell and braying donkey LOL).  Also used to pop into the No Problem bar when we stayed at the Rampampu (old peoples home now - hmmm have to think about that one Wink).  Also stayed at the Gorgona (which is still there) the Omonia (not the ones above the Red Frog the ones on the other side which were above a small supermarket).  It used to be great to have an evening eating and drinking along Ipsos beachfront (bit scary walking along in the days before the pavement) and meander back through the village calling off at various bars (most of which now shut).  Happy days!

Great memories Catha45!  We also stayed in Pyrgi Village many times and remember when Dirty Nellies used to be located on the same road as the Red Frog -just further down on the other side of the road.  There were loads of bars and eating places on that road so quite often we didn't even make it to the front.  Such a shame that almost all of them are now closed.

However when we visit Ipsos we always call in to see Nikki (No Problem Bar - RIP our lovely and funny Spiros), Lia and Bill (Valentinos), Rhonda and George (Seascape), Dimitri (Dimitris' Bar) and Dimitri and Joanna (Pyrgi Place).

Such a pity a lot of British holiday companies pulled out of Ipsos but we do have great holiday memories.
