Was just looking for some general up to date information about both the resorts. I've been looking around for holiday destinations for next summer (early I know, but I like to plan) and was wondering if this area would be suitable for a young couple (late teens) for a summer holiday.
We're not the 18-30 clubbing type at all, but want a bit of a nightlife, some bars ect. Was also wondering how much things cost, eg alcohol, things for breakfast (would probably do self catering), and meals. How much do you guys take with you, for a week/10 days/2 weeks ect. What sort of things is there to do in the area, what would you recommend. Thank you in advance.

Hi MariaAlice, Sounds like you would enjoy Moraitika. Plenty of bars, restaurants, etc.. but also quiet places, if you need them! Lovely restaurants, that you can spend the whole evening in, if you want, rather than going into the bars. Some lively bars, but quieter ones too.
An evening or two of entertainment is always available, if you want one, including, Greek nights, Latin dancers, Elvis nights, etc.. Messonghi is more quiet & relaxing, with a handful of bars & restaurants & a nice beach. You can always walk into Moraitika for more nightlife, in about 10 minutes, or go over the river in the little boat. About 1 euro I think. If you like walking, from Messonghi, you can stroll down to Boukari. Very pretty scenery & lovely tavernas next to the sea. Boat trips are available from the river, with a choice of excursions too. Good bus service to town, or St. George south, Kavos, etc.. from the corner near Messonghi beach hotel. Hope this helps.

What a great review from Olympus. It sounds like my kind of place. I have been going to Kassiopi every year for 33 years and have never ventured south of Corfu town. I don't drive so that is one reason and my wife will not go anywhere but Kassiopi so that is another.
We have been all over the north of the island, west and east coast but never the south. Thanks for your review Olympus. Alec. |

Sounds fantastic. Any advice about spending money, eg average price of food in supermarket, in a taverna, drinks prices and boat trip prices?
Thank you.

Hi, a meal for two, with a drink can be anything from 20 euros upwards, it all depends on what type of food you eat & how many courses. Obviously, if you eat seafood, the bill will be much higher.
A pint of lager is about 3 euros, shorts cost a lot more. A karafe of wine, about 7 euros. Supermarket prices in resort are quite high. Sorry, can`t tell you about boat trips, as we don`t go on them, but there is a lot of choice, if you walk down the riverside. All the trips are advertised on boards, with their prices, next to the boats.

(at) Alecko, you do not know what you are missing by not visiting the south of the Island. There are some lovely villages, and marvelous beaches, including Marathia/Santa Barbara which merge into each other. 2 kms of sandy beach with about 6 tavernas on and lovely sea to swim in.
Benitses, which is also close to the Achilleon Palace, has a lot to offer and has thankfully lost it's reputation for hooliganism which it had in the 80's. It is a lovely fishing village with a marina, and a walk into the old village to soak up the atmosphere is a must. Further south there is also Petriti, Boukari, Vitalades, Lefkimi which are all worth a visit and not one bit commercialised. PLEASE, please, please, have a look to the south. So many people say they have seen all of Corfu, but we have been visiting for 37 years, and make a point of finding somewhere different each year. I can assure you that there is life south of Corfu town. ![]() |
