Hi Family holiday in Sidari later this month Big smile First time to Corfu so any hints tips places to go things to do etc would be great please. Staying at Orestis hotel - anyone know anything about it? Have two boys 13 and 15 - any ideas for things to do for them? Any good places to eat, daytrips etc too? Is there a water park nearby? Heard there's one nearer Corfu town but is there one nearer and if so which one is best? Will be using public transport. Any help would be fab. Thanks, Janie xx

Orestis is in the Megali area my favourite spot right by the beach and really close to the center or Sidari. There are 2 waterparks one really near to where you are staying and the big one which I believe is the one nearer to Corfu town. There is an arcade and internet cafe which my son 14 loves, all bars tavernas are full of entertainment for all ages sure the boys will be fine. Never used public transport as usually have a car for 1 week about 150 Euro and visit places at our leisure, works out cheaper really than day trips. Usually do the Greek night as love these but book independent as much cheaper and just as good, pick you up by coach. Then chill for a week but everything you need in Sidari. There is a big supermarket and many smaller ones along the strip a little more expensive. Paleokastritsa is a lovely place and Corfu town best at night, you can book an evening coach trip there too. You can also try Albania, Erokusa island not sure of the spelling, the list is endless. We have been there 11 times and still find something different to do. Have a fab time, enjoy!

Similar to Sedgi, we have been going since 87, regularly since 2001, but not been back since 2009.  In all those years we have had only a couple of below average meals, and most have been fantastic.  Washed down with plenty of Mythos/Amstel/Vergina/Fix/Hellas beer, and some Retsina and/or Metaxa.  Days relaxing by the pool, or by the beach, our particular favourite is Apotripiti beach by Melitsa Supermarket.  Public transport wise, we have caught the local bus to Corfu town, and on our last trip we caught the bus to San Stefanos and spent the day there on the lovely wide beach.  Have also been to Paleokastritsa and Kassiopi, and both are beautiful places to visit (never stayed there though).
In short, Corfu is the most marvellous place on the planet, and I am just six little numbers away from moving there. 2 weeks to go for us, can you tell I am a little bit excited!!! 14 more sleeps.

Forgot to add Corfu town has a McDonald thats why my son especially loves the trip to Corfu town! They will love the old and new castle a proper boy thing but a lovely taverna at the top to have a ciold beer and snack and views are amazing. Roda at night is fab and a great Mexican, only usually eat there once for a change as love the Greek food.

I have to disagree about the other waterpark being very small.
Certainly Hydropolis is not as big as Aqualand, but there are plenty of waterslides etc, and they do a great all inclusive day a couple of times a week.  Also the transfer time is much less since it's only a short distance along the coast at Acharavi.

Your kids will love Sidari-there's plenty for them to do including watersports, pedaloes etc. You can hire a boat from the jetty too.

I wasn't impressed by Ericoussa (other than the cannabis growing wild in the hedgerows!) but the trip to Paxos is worthwhile.  Beautiful island!

Don't book any trips through your rep-you'll get the same ones on the street for around half the price.

The traditional Greek tavernas I'd recommend are Symposio, Family, and Konaki which are all at the Canal D'Amour end of the resort.
Plenty of other eateries around the resort to suit all tastes, all very reasonably priced.

Possible Stuart is meaning Sidari Waterpark, which is small and I think really caters more for younger children. A nice little complex though.    Moyra

So so hot here at the moment, sun cream is a must, but it only helps you fry, water up to your neck is the only answer, with a hat on.

We arrived back Monday night and noticed that at 7.30pm the temperature was 32.5 degrees so you can imagine what it was like during the day.
