I have seen the 2013 list of festivals for Corfu but does anyone know if there will be anything happening in Gouvia at the Easter weekend. We arrive on 3 May (Greek Good Friday).

Hi Flange,
Have you tried contacting Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel where you will be staying to ask what the local celebrations will be. I can guarantee that Greek Easter is not to be missed, the locals will definitely know where the major celebrations, processions etc. will be. Enjoy.Smile

I have celebrated Greek Easter before but there was nothing happening then at the hotel, but that was in 1982!  It may have changed.  At that time we were only on half board and there was only one taverna open Easter Sunday, but this may have changed too.  Can't remember seeing a church there either.

Hi,
I think things may well have changed in the last 30 years as they celebrate Easter big time, more than we do Christmas. Perhaps someone from that area can advise you, but as I say why not contact your hotel as I am sure that they will be aware of all the local celebrations. x

Thanks Elliemay I will do that.  Might contact Stella at Agni Travel as I know she lives in Gouvia.

You will be able to get into Corfu Town on the Saturday for the pot throwing.
Does anyone know whether the blue bus runs on the Saturday of Easter?
We arrive on Friday 3rd too, staying in Kassiopi, hoping to get the boat to town for the pot-throwing.

Hi

I assume those bus times are from Kassiopi and not Gouvia so need to get those times sorted pretty quickly as we do not land until 21.00 Friday 3rd so don't imagine a rep will be available to sort that out.

Have contacted the hotel and am told that a midnight celebration is being held at the village church but do not mention where that is. The only church I know is on an island going towards Kommeno which would make walking there at night unsafe! Is there another church in the village itself which would make attending the celebration possible?
Thanks
