Hi All,
Can anyone enlighten me as to why the forum is so quiet these days, is their another preference that is being used to communicate about Corfu? I hope not, it would be sad to see. However I love reading about Corfu and miss the comments and questions it helps me feel connected whilst awaiting my return...it's getting nearer for our holiday and I am getting rather excited about getting there to say the least.

I just love that Corfu feeling!

Lindybell, there are lots of Corfu groups on Facebook nowadays. I use both.

Lindybell, just go to google and type in "Corfu Forums". You are spoilt for choice, I never use Trip Advisor though which is usually the first one up.

Afraid this forum has become cluttered up with inane stuff, such as word games and song names, town names etc. Whilst it keeps the forum active in the winter months it obscures the real stuff that used to be on here, of folk asking for information about various resorts, tavernas, accommodation, places worth visiting, where to exchange currency etc. so when you check hot topics all you see is a block of comments on games threads from the same person, as was the case this morning. This causes a lack response to enquiries from new members and stops them becoming active participants.

I joined before my first visit to Corfu and it was brilliant, I got loads of information about this and other islands and it helped to get me hooked on Greece. If you asked a question the answer came back from members the same day.

As my experiences in Corfu and Greece grew I used to regularly contribute and check in every day, but I rarely bother these days. I have no wish to stop folk having fun on the games threads, but it would be good to get it back how it was or block the games threads from the hot topics.

its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

I've been a lurker for a long time now, and I only contribute infrequently.  I agree that the game stuff isn't everybody's cup of tea, and I sometimes struggle to see the point of it, but on balance, I don't see that it does any harm.  It seems to me (and I could be wrong of course), that the games are kept going out of a perception that there is an imperative to keep the forum very very active, as though somehow it would die out otherwise.  I'm pretty sure this isn't the case, but to each their own, and the intention at least ought to be applauded.

Isn't the truth of the matter that the natural ebb and flow of boards like this is that people will post (about holiday/Corfu stuff) during and just after the season, when thoughts of holidays and Corfu are foremost in the mind?  And that it naturally goes a bit quieter in the winter?  That's not a bad thing.  Or a dangerous one.  Is it?
Oh, why not. Just a small one.

I'm not keen on the word games, prefer to hear people's opinions on places and various restraunts, but each to his own. Not long now to our visit, can't wait. In Cornwall at the moment, superb weather getting us in the mood. Great.

I wish the forum was like the old one... new photo's of the jetty and new topics etc. I have been a member on here now since around 2009, possibly a little earlier and enjoyed the input and the comments although sometimes the conversations went off track somewhat sometimes, but was always good to hear the opinions and ideas.

Just an observation after reading the above posts.

Its no wonder it feels like the forum is so quiet or as commented on recently in another post, dying.
People seem to want to post to the games that are played on here, yet information that could be useful, is often ignored. Just this last week I posted regarding something that might be useful to someone at some point, as did another poster. Both of these posts were looked at but no one commented on either of them. It maybe they were of no interest to anyone. My post was regarding advice on pre booking seats with Olympic, the other post was regarding Ryan air seats now out. May be we should be spending our time acknowledging these posts even if its only to say thank you for sharing.

Please don't think I'm offended by the fact that no one commented on my post. I'm not. I do however wonder what the forum is!

I think it's because it is quiet and some of the topic's may have already been answered, I don't like that you would have offended anyone. Just keep going with your questions I'm sure that the forum will pick up soon.

Sorry I didn't get to read and answer your posts, I'll say thank you to you. x

Thank You. x

Some one loves me then!

Lindybell, I also remember and loved the old forum. Now, that used to get VERY lively!! There would be many a bust up! We were all so sad when it closed. I for one tried the "other" forum but as soon as this one started back up, I was back here like a rat up a drain pipe!!

Oh yes, the old forum was very lively at times as you said, I also miss it very much, especially the photo's changing... get fed up of seeing the same pic, like forever...
Rat up a drainpipe, yes I agree, I think that many of us were exceptionally grateful for the reopening of this forum, I truly for one missed it when I couldn't come on here and check out the new topic of conversation.

Can I just add that although a small handful of us members regularly post on the Beach forum all year around, for me it's not unlike doing a quick crossword although some games have become a little stale over time a few of us look forward to the banter ... not to everyone's taste I know and I personally will check out all the new comments and posts with interest, especially if a newbie is asking for advice and personal experiences. I agree it would be nice if members could post photos again like the old site ... any chance of this happening?

I used to love the old forums too, but considering that Nathan who used to oversee it technically ended up with all sorts of legal matters, I'm just happy to have this replacement. I used to like the innovations at Christmas like the snow and light smashing, just maintaining interest.
I post now and again where I think I can be helpful, but I would also say a big thank you to those who post regularly on whichever bit of the forums which helps to keep it alive.
I think the numbers of independent travellers to Greece are dwindling, perhaps with people on all inclusive deals not requiring much information on localities or tavernas etc. Just a thought as a contributing factor.
I can't wait to get back to Corfu - not till September - and in the meantime I shall spend a happy half hour each day on here reading the posts, and thankful for it.   Cheers (Yammas)
Colin

The chances are Shakespearstar that your posts were obscured by updates on the word games so no one actually got to see the information you posted. They can soon get nudged to the bottom of the list. Hence my suggestion that items of that type have their own thread that does not appear in the  latest posts, its probably not technically possible.

its nice to be important but its more important to be nice

I too loved the photos, and I remember smashing the Christmas lights. It was a bit like popping bubble wrap...you just had to do it!

I agree Rocdoc, it only takes one person to play all the games in one go and a post on the forum page gets pushed to the bottom of the page.

At sometime or another I have saved this forum in my favourites and set it to bypass the main forum page. Instead it takes me to "new posts" that way I see everything that has been posted since I last looked. This way I don't miss any new posts. Admittedly I look on a regular basis so I don't have pages of it.

I wonder if your idea has been looked into Rocdoc? I feel that something needs to be done about the games, and this would be a way to keep the games for those that like them but not having them so in your face all the time. I also wonder what new visitors might think of the forum. I know when I find a new forum it is the latest threads that catch my attention to start with. If I came across a list of games, would I want to explore the forum more?

To be honest, there are eight games and the forum has been arranged so that only ever the eight games shown and not every single post.
There are 20 posts showing in recent posts and also if you scroll through the forums any posts that you haven't read are shown in bold print.

Elliemay, non of our tablets or laptops ever show more than four recent posts, the same would apply to smart phones I imagine. So as far as we would be concerned, if we only quickly looked at recent posts we would invariably only see games, they drive me nuts.
Bob.
Sorry, just checked and its five not four recent posts.
