Hi everyone
![]() I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now and thought I'd introduce myself and ask a few questions! My family (hubby & 2 kids aged 15 and 9) and I will be staying in Villa Foula, San Stef in the last week of May. It's the first time we have ever traveled to Corfu or a Greek Island! (Our last holiday was in Gozo) We are super excited as it seems just like the kind of place we love. We don't do the 'touristy' places so much and prefer quiet, laid back villages. Anyway, we love to snorkel and have read that hiring a boat for the day is the way to go. Is there more than one boat hire firm in San Stef? If so, does anyone have any recommendations for which one is good? We plan to eat out a few nights and stay in for BBQ's some days too. The idea is to shop at Niko's (sp?) supermarket when we arrive. Are there any other supermarkets/mini markets that are better/more local? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the info you provide!! Shell ![]() ![]() ![]() |

There are 2 minimarkets and 3 boat hire outlets in the village.
If you are coming from the airport by hire car, you will turn down to S/S at Sinies, (before you reach Nico's Minimarket which is nearer to Kassiopi) Just after you turn off the main coast road you will see Yanni's supermarket which is quite comprehensive, however you will have passed a number of full size supermarkets on your way out of Corfu Town. You can order fresh meat from the shops in the village. Niko stocks meat for BBQs as well as charcoal etc; Have a nice time, we were in the village last night, still pretty quiet. Bob. |

Hi there - fully endorse what Bob says.
We use Yannis at Sinies (by the little mini roundabout just after you turn off the main road) for bigger shops and do daily top-ups at the two minimarkets in the village. Richard |

That's great, thank you Bob and Richard, think we will look out for Yannis. Good to know we can get the daily essentials in the village!
20 days, 10 hours and 30 minutes (ish) to go!! ![]() |

We use Yannis at Sinies (by the little mini roundabout just after you turn off the main road) for bigger shops and do daily top-ups at the two minimarkets in the village. We have used the large supermarkets before, but after a flight we just can't be bothered anymore. Richard |

I think we'll be limited by how much shopping we can do anyway as we'll have the luggage in the hire car. Maybe we'll get the essentials the first day, it will be about 4pm when we arrive so a walk sown to one of the Tavernas will hopefully ease us in to Greek life!
The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the drive from the airport. I've read it can be a little scary.. ![]() |

It depends on your confidence driving on the wrong side of the road, getting from the airport to out of Town can be a bit daunting.
Leave the airport road, turn right, at the end of that road the sea should be in front of you, turn left, follow this road keeping the sea on your right, the road bears round to the left round the cricket pitch, car park, turn right between two pillars, just keep going past the port etc, at T junction traffic lights filter right onto dual carriageway, your on your way. Take coast road to Dassia after you've passed Kondokali and Gouvia There are more detailed directions on the site somewhere.. Bob |

Bobs directions are spot on. As long as you keep the sea on your right you are heading in the direction you need. The only major turn is just past Gouvia where there is a large pink/orange building on the corner and the signpost says ahead for Paleo or right for Kassiopi. Turn right and just follow the road for approx 30 minutes to Ag Steph. A couple of very tight bends around Agni area but otherwise take it easy and you will be fine.
If you do a large shop at Nikos and cannot fit it in the car I believe he will deliver it down to you.

It is not that difficult, and the descriptions above are excellent. It is a lovely drive. The only point to add is that just as you hit the sea after turning right out of the airport to remember that traffic is coming at you from a different direction than you are used to, and there are two roads in parallel at that point so you need to keep an eye out. I get so excited seeing the bright blue sea and lovely yachts at that point that it is easy to be distracted! The drive through Corfu town that Bob and Wendy describe is really lovely and likely to make you want to visit Corfu Town during your holiday - well worth the visit.

As above, the junction when you get to the sea can be a bit worrying the first time as its quite a wide road but just take your time and you will be OK.
The best way to be safe is to keep up with the speed of the rest of the traffic. So many times you see tourists driving at 20mph and local drivers will overtake even when they cant see whats coming the other way and this includes coaches.

Just seen your staying at Villa Foula and I immediately felt a pang of jealousy, its a lovely villa, we stayed many times in Villa Magda next door. You will have a fabulous holiday, only 50 sleeps till we are back in Stephanos. Happy Hols.

We're here to please.
Well as best we can. ![]() If I tried to describe how I do it through town, not only would I get tired of typing, but without doubt I would miss a vital direction, and folk would spend their whole holiday going round in circles in Corfu Town. Bob. |
