Last year my wife and I booked EasyJet to Corfu for this July and treated ourselves to Speedy Boarding at the same time.  Earlier this year the grandchildren (8 and 10 year olds) begged to come with us so I booked for them separately. When I was checking the documents a couple of days ago I realised that I didn’t book them the Speedy Boarding option at the time and having checked, EJ now want a further £82.00 for this option.

Now, what do I do? Just turn up and ask if they can SB with us? Forgo our SB and join the hustle and try to get 4 seats together. Or pay the extra to guarantee 4 seats together. Anybody else had this problem?

Mike.

I’m not completely useless, I can be used as a bad example.

I suspect if you have a word with them once you get to the boarding gate lounge they will sort you out and board the kids with you

Certainly on their scheduled flights they always board those with kids first anyway

After all, you cannot speedy board leaving the kids in the lounge now can you?

Smile Children are often let on with their gardians with the SB. Unfortunately, some of the more unscrupulous passengers use this to get on first by joining up with those with children. Another "scam" is to take a wheelchair even though it's not needed, I've seen that one done more than once and overheard someone telling another passenger to do it next time! Angry

Hi,
Checking the easyJet site, it is only people that have children under the age of five years that are allowed to board before the rest. Best you contact easyJet and tell them of your problem.

Not all those people in wheel chairs are scams!!

My husband can walk slowly for about 200 yards, but by the time he has walked through the airport corridors to the relevant gate etc, then walked up the steps to the aircraft the plane would most likely have taken off and it would be over the channel or north sea.

I do book a wheelchair for him, although he doesn't use one at home, as the car is in the drive and he can walk that amount and can slowly walk around the supermarket using the trolley as help.

Maybe Easyjet should do what Thomas Cook once asked. which is to ask for details of the disabled blue badge number etc and we also had to show it at the check in desk, this would prevent people who need a wheelchair being tarred with the scam badge!!

Sorry for getting on my high horse about this, but it annoys me especially as we have been told that there are more British People use wheel chairs at Corfu airport than any other nationality.

Apologies to those who do not abuse the system too.

Don't think the blue badge would work either. Both times my husband has required a wheelchair at an airport was following an accident. He could not walk far. Of course he did not have a blue badge as his situation was temporary

There's no need to feel bad about it Lymmbo, the service is there to be used and they have to provided the service by law...for five years I've used it at Gatwick and like your husband can only walk about 200 yards and then have to stop with the pain and only able to go on again after the pain has gone.

The best is Corfu Airport, even after me telling them I could possably manage the short distance to the plane they insist I use the wheelchair which they push me past the security in then to gate five where they take me down in the lift then on to the machine thats like a cherry picker, I'm then lifted up to the planes door opposite the main door and wheeled to my seat at the front of the plane.

The Easyjet staff said I should not feel guilty as this is my right...so now I don't and two of my family are entitled to be with me at all times.

Embarrassed I'm sorry if my comments have been taken the wrong way, but I did say some of the more unscrupulous people. My father-in-law needed assistance and this was provided by the use of a wheelchair, so there is no way I would imply all wheelchair users are on a scam, quite the opposite. However, I did overhear someone suggest asking for wheelchair assistance as it saved paying for speedy boarding. In a few weeks time, we will have a five year old with us, but I've paid for SB. Thumbs Up

Terry W, no offence taken, just thought it would be useful to highlight what you had stated, especially as I had heard that more Brits used wheelchairs than any other nationality at the airport, or so I am told!

My suggestion of a blue badge, would have got round that problem apart from those people who have been injured whilst on holiday or just before hand.  But hopefully, they would be obviously injured so not a problem with giving some assistance.

I must admit that EJ do tend to encourage people to use the wheelchairs if the person is a bit infirm as they don't want anything to hold that plane up from its take off slot I suspect.

Assisted boarding has to be booked in advance when making a flight booking!
One cannot just pick up a wheelchair at the airport!
Questions are asked when making the booking as to how ones lack of mobility affects one, some people can walk, but, can't climb stairs or walk around the plane, the same with the visually impaired!
It's not the airline that provide assisted boarding, but, the airport one is using, they use an outside company that operates inside of the terminal, if assisted boarding has been booked in advance this company will have your name and the flight you are on!

I'm sure most people who feel the need for assisted boarding would rather not have to ask for assistance and wish they were as mobile as other passengersAngry

I couldn't agree more, but I was not thinking of the present day, where things have changed, thankfully.

Just thought I would give you an up-date now we have come back.

Going out at Manchester airport I advised the check-in desk on our situation, ‘no problem’ said the very helpful staff, and stuck SB stickers on the boarding cards for the children, no charge.

Coming back at Corfu, the check-in staff apologised but said they couldn’t help us, so I asked at the boarding gate, and they let us pass through all together on SB.

I must say, the EJ staff at Manchester and the agency staff at Corfu were very helpful indeed.

Mike.

All the bad press a lot of airlines get, I feel people should focus on positives experiences more!

I guess its human nature to concentrate on the negatives!

Anyway glad they could help you!

Hi,  I must say, I totally agree with Lymmbo! When using wheelchair assistance, you should have to show your blue badge when collecting a wheelchair, unless you have had an accident on holiday, then a doctors note should be shown.
It does annoy me to hear that a few people abuse this service. I need a wheelchair for travelling at the airport & have a blue badge, without this service, I would not be able to go to Corfu (heaven forbid) ..
It's as bad as not being able to park in disabled parking spaces, as someone is parked there, eating their sandwich, etc.. without a badge!
I must say though.. the service & staff at Corfu airport are much better organised with the special assistance than staff in UK.

Yes Olympus, I couldn't agree more. The service and staff at Corfu airport have been excellent every time that we have returned from Corfu.

As have Manchester and Liverpool airports when we have travelled from them too.

Or an accident in the UK before they go on holiday!!!

My husband had a bike accident a few years back a week before we travelled, he fractured his knee and his leg was very swollen and colours under the sun as was his arm. Doc said he was fit to travel but could not walk far and to book assistance. He managed to get from the car to the transfer bus with the aid of his crutches  but could not possibly have managed the miles of walkways etc at Gatwick

By the time we arrived in Greece he was very white and drawn he was so exhausted - but he would not have qualified for a blue badge

What he did have however was a letter from his doctor!!

Maybe that would be the way to go for those who are not disabled enough for a blue badge or have no need of one normally because they can park their cars near enough to shops etc to be able to manage
