We visited the Dionysus for the first time recently, although it has been on our to do list for a very long time.

What a wonderful late lunchtime visit we had. The food is very, very tasty. We ordered bruschetta with feta and mint, and wow, it was much different and even more tasty than we had imagined. A portion of village sausage arrived in a mustard sauce, again exciting the taste buds and quite different to any we had had before. The pork steaks were very tasty, also with an unusual twist, and the squid and pink pepper risotto was delicious.

Of note, the house wine was one of the best (crisp and dry) that we had on our holiday, but we do love village wine!

We bought some home made fig jam whilst there and had it with local yoghurt and nuts the next morning. There is wild thyme growing around the taverna, divine on your roast chicken but remember to leave the roots in place.

The view is unsurpassed in my personal view, from up here we could see over to the other side of the island, and Albania (and this from the North West Coast). We heartily recommend that you try this place for yourselves!  Top marks.

Totally agree with you Jane. I walked up there a couple of years back from Arillas using these great walking maps by Lance Chiltern, that was early June though.
We are staying in Arillas one of our weeks in August and will try to go again and maybe get down to the little beaches below the taverna.

Shame on you Jane for taking so long to visit this real jewel !! No-one who visits Arillas or Agios Georgios should miss out on this treat. As there are several lovely tavernas in Afionas we have the village on our agenda for several trips every time we visit Corfu, starting with the 1st day of our holiday. It is like a refreshing drug.

Totally agree Denis, We always try and visit Afionas when we come to Corfu. It has a look of of an Aegean island about it, would like one day to walk down to Port Timoni, does anyone know how long it takes to get down there, and what the foot path is like?

It should take about 20-30 minutes to walk down and maybe 30+ to return. The path is pretty rough with loose stones etc so care is needed to avoid slipping over.
Also be careful with the undergrowth as the path is bordered by bushes with vicious thorns. I haven't been down for a couple of years and the path may have become wider with use.
