Hello Alankeith. The general rule is that the Exchange rate will usually be better when you are on Corfu. It's also true that there has been a marked improvement in the value of Sterling against the Euro so that's good news whether you buy your holiday money here in the UK or on the Island.

I do notice a suggestion from certain economists that things may change this year with the Euro strengthening again. In that case there may be some advantage in buying Euros here in advance of your holiday as you appear to be doing. Of course nothing is definite especially when it comes to currency fluctuations!! Ermm

Watch out for regional 'variations' Roger if you are collecting your Euros. According to "Which? Money" there are substantial differences in what is offered across the country even by the same company.

Yes I have been following the rates for a few weeks now. It seems that you can get a better rate by requesting delivery rather than collection. Also noticed that it seems to be a better rate if you order by delivery on a Wednesday.

Whatever the rate is I still think we will be paying more than in previous years for food and drink as the tax rate in Greece has been increased by a large amount.

Anyway it is got to be cheaper than holidaying in the UK.Smile

Thumbs Up I've just had a look at the rate offered by FairFX online and it is 1.237 = £1 with free delivery if buying more that £750, others will do the same with a lower purchase but at a slightly lower rate.

If you buy from the likes of Tesco, M & S or Sainsburys, you will get a better rate if ordered online and collect from the store, not buy at the store or have delivered.

I hope they allow this link as it's excellent for checking and buying rates. It also gives warnings about certain pitfalls, especially if using a debit card to buy your cash.

I've used FairFX and ICEPLC and the only problem was FairFX sent 100 Euro notes but smaller denominations when asked. Hope this helps everyone.

Well you will certainly end up paying more for anything in the shops which originated in the UK as the Greeks, along with other Euro members, get a reduced rate of exchange when the pound is stronger, so stick to Greek manufactured products!!

That's excellent Roger as 1.21 seems to be more the 'norm' today.
