We were in our local Wetherspoons last night and picked up a copy of their June-July magazine. On page 63 there's an editorial about Corfu Beer, the microbrewery based in Arillas. To mark the Olympics Wetherspoons are stocking 'Koroibos Ale'. It has been brewed in Leicestershire but it is brewed by Claudio Mouzakitis who is master brewer at Corfu Beer. The article says that Koroibos was a baker who won the opening running race of the first recorded Olympic Games in 776BC. There is also a related competition on page 72. Its good to see something positive about Corfu and a Corfu based business doing well even it is an advert for Wetherspoons.
The article also says the microbrewery is open to visitors. I think we will be going in September. Has anyone been?

On another Website it says they have tours on Saturday and Sunday. It doesn't actually say that on theirs so probably contacting them is best. I think it's a splendid initiative by Wetherspoons. David |

I have enjoyed several 1/2 litres of Corfu beer over the previous 2 holidays in Agios Georgios North. A splendid real ale, bottle conditioned, still a bit hazy, with sell by dates of no more than 2 months, so its always fresh. Similar to Youngs London Ale, or a very decent home brew. Try it at Marias Snac Shac at Lunch Time! Only 4 weeks away now!

David - thanks for the link. I'll contact them nearer the holiday to see if we can arrange a visit/tour.
I've just entered the competition, it runs till 6 August.
We are going to London for the weekend on 20 July so hopefully we can sample the Koroibos beer whilst we are there.

Called into our local Weatherspoons in Whitley Bay, Saturday 28.07.12. Enquired at the bar about said Beer, (Koroibos Ale) staff hadn't even heard of it. Even when I told them it was in their newsletter, they were none the wiser. Perhaps its only down "sarf" that its being distributed. Left disappointed, will have to wait until next year for another draft.
