I always just put my mobile phone number on the label, plus the destination of where we are going on the outward journey, and phone number,  Post Code and surname for the return journey. I tend to print off labels and then use sellotape to laminate them using the Holiday Truths website tools.

It doesn't bear thinking about when you really think what happened. You were very quick thinking thankfully. Yes, how can they say they packed it themselves when they clearly didn't. The airport staff I am sure don't like things like this happening. Imagine quite a lot of people checking in with the wrong cases and all those planes they would have to retrieve the cases from!!! All those late flights taking off! Good job it doesn't happen very often if you ask me.

On my case I have a combination dial and two locks built into the case, anyone who tried to get in my case 1. Their keys would not work in my locks and 2. The combination lock wouldn't open with their number. Mind you, would they even open the case transiting or wait until they got home? Me personally I would check in for my second flight and only when I got home would I open it.

This is a bit of good advice for anyone with a combination lock. I have a Delsey cabin case for hand luggage and although a great case, it does have a tendency when you use the combination lock to 'forget' the number. This happened to me in the hotel 45 minutes before we were due to leave in the taxi to go to the airport. There are only 999 combinations that it can possibly be. So I started from 100 and worked my way up, at number 704 I found it! It is tedious but you can do it yourself in 40 or so minutes. When I first got my Samsonite it went in the attic until we were going to use it, when I got it down three months later I forgot the number! Samsonite said take it to a dealer 40 miles away and they will sort it. I was going the next day. That was when I worked it out you can do it yourself.

Glad again you got your case back, there are some horror stories out there.

I put our name and address on the inside of our cases.  I'm going to add our phone number this year.
Never put anything on outside other than holiday destination/Flight details-that's just asking for trouble.

My Samsonite is a solid one and I think even if they ran over it, it wouldn't give. I also pack my case in such a way so that even if it pinged open because all the locks were broken and just hanging on by a thread my clothes etc would stay intact. My husband has a 'semi soft' case and they managed to trash the logo on his so it split it. He has a Carlton case. I think in a couple of flights it will completely give up the ghost, he is more hopeful! My case does not have a zip.

Don't you just hate going to Corfu airport and waiting for hours for the cases on the carousel. It is a small airport and I think they deliberately go for a brew when a flight comes in! I have been on a flight on an A380 and the cases arriving on the carousel was fifteen minutes and three minutes going through Customs. Needless to say, it wasn't the UK! That happens everytime we go, they are very efficient.

My husband has just made a comment: Have you ever noticed that when you collect your cases off the carousel, only one person does it. There may be a wife or husband (spotter saying that is my case) but one person generally gets them off.

So he further asks 'why does the whole party crowd around the carousel when there is only one person collecting the cases?' We see it all the time. Me for one I stand back because I give room to people who need to collect their case. I get a bit bored hanging about but we get there in the end!

I must admit that Corfu has got quicker, the longest we have waited was two hours, I was falling asleep waiting! We're going on a Monday this time, I dread to think because all the tour operators come in on a Monday. Happy days.

The funniest bag wait at Corfu we have seen was when the baggage belt kept going round and stopping going round and stopping with nothing on it. A very large group of males with pink Kavos t shirts started a Mexican wave, very much in time and then all the other tourists joined in as well in a perfectly formed circle round the carousel. The workers in the airport just stared in amazed confusion. It was hilarious!! julesxx

We always fly from / to Manchester airport so thanks for this warning. Our cases are bright pink and our friends laugh at us but they are the only bright pink ones on the carousel. We also have woven straps around them which have our names on.

I couldn't personally see someone being honest and taking it back to the airport, we live 40 miles away from Manchester and I must admit I would, although probably everybody wouldn't. I would to think that if it was my case that was missing someone would be honest too.
