Hi,
We usually hire a car for our holidays to Corfu as we usually go independantly but this year we are not sure what to do as we have booked a package with Thomson as it was so much cheaper. We are unsure whether to book for two weeks and hire from the airport, or have the end bit or the middle bit ... I seem unable to make a decision!!! Advice/thoughts on a postcard please! We don't want to waste money on car hire we don't need, but want it for a good few days to visit friends in Kassiopi, explore the island etc. I haven't used package transports before - the thing that worries me is that our flight home is at (approx) 1am but we have to be out of our apartments at 12 - going to be a long day. We arrive on 30th July, so not long now ![]() Jacquie ps. Which car hire company do you recommend? Have had a good quote from Corfu Cars who I think are in Sidari but any other suggestions welcome.

We have a hire car from the airport and have it for our two week stay and drop it back to the airport at the end. I know what you mean about not always wanting it for everyday but we find as we have the car we use it to go out and explore the island more. Its usefull for bundling shopping in ect but I supose there are days we could do without it if we are just lazing by the pool but hey ho. It also saves you the dreaded coach transfer to and from your accomodation if you dont do coaches very well. We use Top Cars and find them very reasonably priced, the cars are spotlessly clean and everything works. Met quickly at the airport and a few bits to fill in and away you go. One year we had taxis to and from the airport at 60 euros a go and then had a car from midway through the holiday but found you suddenly had to cram in a whole weeks trips into a hectic week and then nothing at the beginning or end instead of spacing it through the two weeks and taking your time to do what you wanted, so taking into account the 120 euros that would of been saved from the taxis it now goes to the hire car instead...sorry if I waffled somwhat but Im sure you get my drift!!!

Hi JacquieF, I presume there are only 2 of you looking to hire a car, I can recommend NSK travel in Roda, their cars are well looked after they do have a selection of vehicle types/sizes depending on your needs, & in my view their hire rates, T&C, plus insurance cover are better than the other 2 car hire companies in the village & last year we asked to include my wife as the second driver at no further cost, but please check that you are aware of what the insurance covers which can be different from each others and it suits you. You are probably also aware not to hire a car through the tour operator as they only charge a fee for something you can do yourself. You may also get a better price for the car hire when you are in the village rather than arranged before you arrive, We have hired a Hyundia Getz previously for 3 days which was enough time to tour around, I'm over 6ft 1in and for a small car I found it ok to drive for this time. Enjoy your holidays & hope this helps.

Thanks for all that - I think we will bite the bullet and go for the whole two weeks - saves the hassle of hanging around with our cases on the last day, I would hate that - we can just pile in the car, head off out for the rest of the day ending up in Corfu Town for the evening before we get to the airport.
Aussieboy, there are two adults and two skinny teenage girls to fit in - we only want a small car (Panda probably or something similar) as we aren't taking much luggage and it is easier on the small mountain roads I will have a look at Top Cars. The place we got a price for doesn't cover tyres or underside of the car and said there isn't insurance available for this, although I know some do offer it. Thanks again...

The best place to go is Dromeas which is opposite the Silver Beach Hotel.
I've rented from them for some years. email dromeas-(at)otenet.gr. phone number +30266306461 His cars are fully insured by that I mean for both tyres and underside and everything else and I'm quite happy for you to give my name as recommending them. If you phone you'll get either Spiros or Miriam. Richard Allen |

Try Atlas, theyve beaten all the prices weve looked at by £40 on a 11 day hire.

I too would highly recommend Dromeas - they leave the car at the airport for you to collect and I would much rather transfer by car or taxi than the dreaded coach transfer where you wait for ages for everyone to get on the coach and then face the lottery of who gets dropped off first.
Regards, Kath.

Whatever you do, don't pay Thomsons prices as tittered/gasped at at the welcome meeting!

Hi
Value plus, value cars... so many have the same names! We have had a really good quote and a friendly response from Spiros at http://www.rentalcarcorfu.com. They are based in Sidari. Anyone used them? Jacquie
