We need to get from Igoumenitsa down to Lefkada in September. I have found that there is one bus a day going to Lefkada at 1130! I would like to know if I can book tickets in advance when on Corfu. Can anyone help?
best wishes

Hi Terry,
It gives numbers in both Igoumenitsa and Lefkada for making reservations on this link. Would double check the time though as this route is saying until May 13. |

Thanks for this information, very useful. It's a balancing act. We really just want to breeze into the bus station and buy a ticket for the 1130. However if it's full, we are stuck!! We want to decide the day before where we are going next otherwise it defeats the object of the holiday.
However that one bus is the link down to the rest of the Ionian Islands, unless anyone has any other suggestions?
best wishes
Terry
Of course, if the bus is full, we could turn around, get the ferry back to Corfu Town, walk to the bus station, get the bus up to Kassiopi and meet Daveyboy for a Mythos!!

Are there any ferries from Igoumenitsa down to Kefalonia or maybe Patras?
Can't see me getting a cab though!
best wishes

May be worth checking out this site for Greek ferry timetables and routes.

There seems to be a ferry from Igoumenitsa to Patras. We could work our way back up the Ionians but the website seems to cater for car people not foot passengers. I will have to search it more closely. We could go by air from Corfu to Preveza on the Saturday though! best wishes

Several buses a day from Igoumenitsa to Prevesa, and from there onto Lefkada.
Google KTEL Igoumenitsa and you will get a wider choice than if you look at Corfu KTEL only
The Patras Igoumenitsa (and reverse) ferry will be one of the Italian ferries coming or going to Brindisi, Bari, Ancona, Venice or Trieste. Look at Minoan and ANEK websites for a start.
Bus tickets can be booked in advance when you are in Corfu if you want, but I would just get the ferry, bus to Prevesa, and then another onto Lefkas from there.

Many thanks, I have googled KTEL Igoumenitsa and found that there are only 3 buses a week to Lefkada! I cannot see any timetables down to Preveza. However from other websites I have linked together a number of hops from Igoumenitsa - Parga - Preveza - Lefkada Town.
Have you got a link that gives a timetable of buses to Preveza?
best wishes

Thanks for the link, Davyboy
![]() I still can't get evidence of frequent buses from Igoumenitsa to Preveza. Our "plans" have now changed slightly in that we will try to find out about buses down to Preveza on our first day in town as we are staying near the bus station.
We are now staying on Corfu for a week leaving on the 9th so hopefully we book seats on the bus to Lefkada leaving Igoumenitsa at 1130.
We now have another few days on the island so where do we go after Pelekas?
best wishes

Must apologise as I thought there would be a good bus service from Igoumenitsa to Prevesa. I just got on to the KTEL website and found that there is an 11.30 am on Mondays and Fridays only, and a 16.15 on Sunday afternoons!
From Prevesa to Lefkada there are 6 buses daily (less on Sundays) between 7am and 8pm. If you can read Greek go onto the KTEL Prevesa site- if not give me a rough idea what timings you are thinking of, and days and I will look it up for you.

Janmanessi, thank you for looking this up for me. We need a couple of seats on that 1130 bus on either Friday 6th or Monday 9th of September. Our plans have become critical of those dates (because of the bus timetable) if we want to get down to Lefkada, Meganisi, Kefalonia, Zante and then on to the mainland.
We are hoping that we can go to the bus station in Corfu Town on the 1st when we arrive and book some seats. Is this possible?
I cannot read Greek that well, so would be very pleased if you could look it up for me.
best wishes
Terry

The problem with KTEL buses is that each Nome, (roughly county) has its own operation. Thus, you will find buses within Thesprotia, (The Nome of which Igoumentitsa is the chief town), and also to Athens, but very few to destinations in neighbouring Nomes.
That said, the KTEL site for Thesprotia is offering connections direct from Igoumenitsa to Lefkada I believe that these services run via Prevezza, but you would need to check with the KTEL.

Thanks for this. I am hoping to book seats on the 1130 (Monday or Friday) bus from Igoumenitsa to Lefkada. Hopefully we will be able to book seats in the bus station in Corfu Town. Will this be possible or would it be best to contact the bus station in Igoumenitsa? Is it possible to book advance tickets?
best wishes
Terry

KTEL Corfu has nothing to do with that of neighbouring Thesprotia. Each Nome has its own KTEL operation. Provincial KTELs were in effect a co-op of bus owners, based within the Nome and although they are now limited companies, to a large extent, the old insular notions remain. Unfortunately, it's not like National Express.
Best off, if you can, get a Greek speaker to call the Igoumenitsa station and enquire for you, or else use the contact form on their site. I'm guessing that with computer ticket issue being the norm, it may be possible to book on line, but on the other hand, perhaps this facility is reserved for the Athens service. Just an idea. There is often a tour boat, based at Nidri on Lefkada, visiting Parga on a regular basis. They, (unofficially), will accept passengers. If you can swing this, it is a much more pleasant, though lengthy option. |
