Hi allWas just wondering if anyone knows if the Avliotes by-pass was open. When we were there last July it was near to completion. We are back again in Julyand would like to think the village would be quieter without all the buses.

I've always thought I'd get a hire car if I didn't have to drive through Avliotes!!

So frustrating last year to be able to see the "other end" with only a short section not completed. It will be so much easier when it does open and Avliotes I'm sure will be delighted! We're not staying at Ag Stef NW this year but will certainly visit and the drive through Avliotes does put me off doing the driving!

Was thinking the same way Gill, we normally get a quad bike (staying at the Romanza) and need it for the hill and getting to other resorts. Getting a bit old for the quad these days.

From looking at another website the by pass is still not finished. Maybe the current Greek economy doesn't help on that score. It would be good to see it finished though. |

Thanks for the reply Jules, looks like it might have to be the quads again.

Certainly agree about the quads Jules, even made it to Paleo a couple of years back. Fantastic veiwing points on the way. The old back is a bit iffy these days so might need something more comfortable.

We were there the other day and its still not finished. There is a story about a bridge that is to be built in the middle but bridge or not there is no money to finish it so I dont think will be open for the forseeable future.

That's such a shame as trying to get the coach through Avliotes is a nightmare. There was a lot of backwards and forwards and a dog getting in the way too last year. I thought we were stuck! I know the drivers are used to it but I wasn't as it was our first time in Ag. Stef.

Gill and I were in San Steph on April 2nd this year and the bypass still wasn't open even though it is finished.
Apparantly some legal issues around access to land long the route are still outstanding and I suspect this could take a long time to resolve. The road looks great its as flat as a pool table but you can't drive on it as the council has put a line of rocks along the road in the middle, however, I bet it makes a Great skate board track for the kids! Thanks Sunny Girl, we have been that way a few times. But we stay in San Stef at the Romanza, and use the Avliotes road to get to Sidari and Peroulades and also to visit Avliotes.

I remember when the Lefkimmi by pass was being built for years. It was a dusty wide peice of land with no tarmac then ... hey prestos it was open ... it was taking 25 minutes of the journey to the port and Kavos but the town (Lefkimmi) became a different place the same when the new road by passing Perivolli, again 20 minutes difference but that was a few years ago when there was a few quid in Greek till, but, to be honest it will get finished, but, a date will be Tuesday, but which Tuesday, which month, and which year, thats the ultimate question.
Hope it opens soon as getting anywhere with improvements is good.
Airport /Kavos 1985 2 hours
Airport /Kavos 2011 at night 30 minutesish
So the new roads by/passes, they have made a difference.
