Hi all,
Thinking of having a change going to Zante. Where would be the best place to stay some where like Roda, Sidari, busy but not like Kavos. Not my idea must add but had my way for years so giving in this time just to prove Corfu is the best and sure will be back the year after. Help me find the right place.x

Had some wonderful holidays in Tsilivi but got fed up with not being able to walk to the tavernas we wanted to go to of an evening because of all the "pullers in" for other places.  That said still wondering if we should go back as made some wonderful friends there who we are still in contact with.

We put off going to Zante for about 8 years, which is when we should of gone. We were all booked up until we were persuaded to go to Cyprus with some friends. So we did. Until this year we went for a week in June and had an amazing time even though my mum fell the second DAY and fractured 3 bones in her foot.We were staying at Alykanas which is a lovely peaceful resort.plenty of bars and good places to eat.And lovely beaches. If you want something just a little bit more lively not much mind check out neighbouring resort of Alykes. We are going back in September without me mum lol. To try and have a holiday we never got.We never thought we could find anything like Corfu but its very close. Try it out, Corfu wil always be there for another time.

Well looks like thats where we are off too, Zante . Taking the plunge as you say looking forward to Cameo island, Lagana beach for the turtles and Marathonissi island also the shipwreck. Believe we can take a trip to the original olympic track one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and Kefalonia, will be nice to see different things. Teenager happy as have Mcdonalds, Pizza hut and Kentucky that bit I'm not looking forward too though will still get many Greek taverna meals in I'm sure. Still not sure where exactly to stay but booking the weekend wish I could have all of this and stay on Corfu. Still there is always next year. xx

Sedgi,
We took the plunge to Zante last year and going back next month, Olympic Holidays have some great deals £374 for 2 SC including baggage etc from Gatwick at the same place we found last year in Tsilivi, set back from the main road but on it, if you know what I mean.

We have been there

Spent a week in Keri, took the local fisherman's boat to the local caves and swam with a grey seal. (very cheap). Lovely quiet place with just enough tavernas  etc and a pitch (as in tar) spring in the woods!! Has a dive centre if you like that sort of thing, lovely for snorkeling. There were peacocks in the garden of our studio

We then went on to spend a week in Old Alikanas which I doubt you can book any more except independently, and loved the place!! Not many tavernas but near enough for a walk into Alikanas for a meal if you wanted to through the olive groves. Greece as it used to be, thin uncrowded beaches, market gardens. Heaven. And the best beach on Zakinthos a 5 moinute drive up he road, not signposted, loads of Greeks, pure white sand and not a beach bed it sight!!!!

Went to a lot of hill villages which were wonderful but avoided Laganas etc. The blue caves are to be avoided too!!!  Stick to the ones at Keri!! Smaller but quiet and no-one stopping your car every 100 yards to persuade you spend you cash!!

Hi thanks all for the info am now starting to look forward to it all though a bit reluctant. At first it will be nice to explore a new place, all the main resorts seem to be along the one side of the island which is good. How long will it take to drive to each one and want to be somewhere where do not have to drive much at night so hubby can have a few beers. Will have a car but will be out and about during the day, also got a teenage son. Laganas is that like the Kavos of Sidari and what place is as lively as Sidari or Roda.

Looking forward to seeing the turtles, caves and a friend of mine said take a trip to Cameo island and the ship wreck. I like the look of Tsilivi or Alykanas, my son however likes the look of Laganas as it has Macdonalds Pizza Hut and Kentucky. He loves Greece but after 2 weeks struggles with the Greek food not us though eat Greek every night and love it, and is busy. I do not think this is for me but how long will it take to get there if we stay at one of the places above. Thanks got loads more to ask.

We stayed in Alykanas at the Valais Hotel and had a fabulous time.  We went in 2009 with Thomas Cook but I think they only take independant bookings now.  Great location right on the beach, 5 minutes walk up to the mainstreet of Alykanas and walkable to Alykes and Old Alykanas Smile

Sedgi

It is actually quite a small island and much of the driving is like English country lanes, very easy. No big mountains  more like rocky hills. It is therefore easy to go somewhere different every day, distances between the various places are short but do take the tracks through the olive groves towards the coast, you will find some wonderful deserted beaches!!

So even if you stayed  in Laganas  so long as you made sure your accommodation was away from the clubs etc you should be OK and son will be satisfied!! That will give you loads of choice for eating and a short walk to work off the food getting back!!

Laganas has a reputation but it is not at all like Kavos used to be, even Kavos has improved over the years. It is not where I would choose to stay but then I might have a few years back especially if I had a teenage son. He would have hated Old Alikanas!!!
