We popped down to San Stephanos this morning to see what we could see, unfortunately it was hammering down cats and dogs, so there was nobody around to have a gossip with.
As said before both Wave Bar and Damiano's Bar jetties and harbour frontage buildings have gone. However Wave bar have installed a number of large umbrella anchors screwed down. There is something different about Fagopotion jetty, not sure what, San Stephanos Boats jetty seems to have gone, it looked as if Galini Taverna is up and running, as does Eucaliptus with tables laid.
Not much else that we could see that was different.
Will have another go when we get time, a bit busy at the moment de-wintering the house and wondering what to do with the garden, its a mess.

Thanks for taking the time to report - 7 weeks til we can see for ourselves so every crumb of information greedily devoured! Just so long as the general ambience and personnel remain unchanged we shall be happy. We are bringing Corfu virgins with us this year and want them to fall in love as we did many years ago.

Had lunch in Fagopotion this week and the area seemed much the same. The tavernas still have their jetties. It seems the huge fines are aimed more towards bars with a jetty and not tavernas. I do not know the harbour as well as Bob but there was a floating pontoon where boats are moored.

Sue, the floating pontoon is a water ski raft moored there for the winter, there are a couple more anchored in Kouloura Bay.
The jetties generate little income for the bars, so getting rid of them is no great hardship, however the tavernas need them to be able to compete, so take on the fine as another form of taxation.
By the way, how was Fagapotion?

Fagopotion was good but an understandably small menu. Warm enough to sit outside though.
It was the waiter (forget his name but part of the family who own the taverna) who gave me the info regarding the fines. The restaurants do not expect to get a huge fine and will look at it as rental for the jetty. Fines seem to be varied and dependant on how much the particular business needs the jetty for income. Obviously in Ag. Steph it is a huge part of the appeal so hopefully this will be reflected in the penalty.

Hi Peter

No, only Fagopotion was open last weekend - there are too few tourists arond to make opening up worthwhile.

There were lots of works going on as the season approaches, but it is still "winter".

We had lunch the other day at Galini Taverna, Nico looked after us with his usual charm, very enjoyable.
Just had a phone call from Costa at Kapareli Taverna to let us know that he is opening on Saturday 26th, so we will be there in the evening with a few friends.
Sadly as I have mentioned on another post, Aaron will not be working at Kapareli this seaon as he is working in Acharavi. I'm sure all who know him wish him well.

Hi Martyn,
No your quite safe, all just the same.
As mentioned above, he opened Saturday 26th, he had a flotilla booked for Sunday so needed a run through for the kitchen. Blow me if when we went to collect "P" from up the hill if I couldn't see yachts moored on his jetty. Turned out to be another Dutch mob, not the usual one as last year, they were still booked for Sunday 27th.

Good to know things are as normal as possible after the surprise of the fines etc and the bars taking the instant action they did. We are arriving in a little over a months time (very end of May for two weeks), so hopefully all will still be well with everyone there.  Looking forward to seeing the familiar faces. Trust Costa is well, he certainly had lost some weight last year, and was looking good.
I assume Vangellis is still working with Nico, be good to see them too.

Thanks Bob

When we were there mid April, everything looked fine, but I wondered if anything had changed/been updated since.  Clearly, the status quo has been maintained (which will please my crew!).

It will, however, be interesting to see how pressure on the remaining jetties develops as the season gets under way.

See you on 10th/11th May (possibly).  Lynn will be out for a few days - 8th to 11th May.

Cheers
Martyn
