Good news Shakes Clap

But l wonder where you will be staying??   Go on give us a clue Wink

Will you be visiting our landlord as usual?

Home this evening after a 10 hour journey with the caravan from South Wales. Traffic worst than normal especially nearer to home at St Ives.
Would not have been much quicker without the van.

Forgot to mention. We went to a show in St Ives this evening.
Bringing back the 60's.
The New Amen Corner. Mike d'Abo and Chris Farlow. Saw Chris Farlow first about 51 years ago in Cambridge!
It was a bit slow getting in and out with all our zimmer frames.
But Shakes, you and Elaine are far too young to have heard of them.

Haha, I wish Malcy! I had a massive crush on Andy Fairweather Low of Amen Corner when I was about 12, but never really rated Mike D'abo - I much preferred Paul Jones, his predecessor in Manfred Mann :)

I'm afraid I am very remiss in posting on forums - but, our trip to Paxos will be in June as usual. Dragging the boat again (for the 12th year, when we were only doing it as a one-off in 2007!)
Planning to leave home on 4th June with a steady drive across Europe, overnights in Bethune Bruay, Dijon & Reggio Emilia before the Superfast ferry Ancona to Igoumenitsa arriving Friday morning 8th June. We are having 3 days in Plataria before the Monday ferry to Paxos, to chill and ensure whatever happens to the Greek or Italian ferries, we should be safe to get the Monday ferry :-)  Leave on 9th July  . . . . . the joys of being retired Smile
I booked Easy Jet for a friend last Thursday from Newcastle outbound on 10th June for £111 including hold bag. My sister got Manchester on 11th with hold luggage for £76!
Wed 20th is the next release and just after 6am seems to be the time. Nothing available at 5.50 ;-)

. . . . Can't wait

Jeff, the Manchester flights were already out when we woke up at 5:45. Mike had his iPad next to him on his bedside cabinet, so that was on the app, which usually seems to be a good few minutes before they go live on the website. Waiting now to book our return flights when they come out this Wednesday.

We're there from 9/6 to 13/7 and I've already promised a night out with Helen who's there in early July, but it looks like you and Malcy should be arriving around the same time as me, so we'll all have to arrange a signal to recognise each other!

I'm the short, fat, bald OAP who is still up for anything on boats!!
We have just costed our flight on easyjet  for June and it is coming out at £403.00.
That will catch us the ferry at 2.00 ish over to Paxos.
Not cheap!! But we will be there.

We are considering 2019 and beyond.
May have to give up The Villa and pool.

We should try and meet up for a drink or two over the holiday - I have 'met' Malcy very briefly as he did a fly past just outside Loggos in his Roxi boat - a couple of years ago though.
We never managed the fabled beer together though.

I have booked my friends return to Newcastle this morning at 5.50 and whilst not as cheap as Manchester, she is pleased with £250 total for the two legs with baggage. I did notice that EJ charge a slight premium for a single person than booking for two or even 4 seats!!!##

My sis had a great deal ex Manchester at c £150 return total including baggage  - out 18th June, returning 9th July.

Sorry. I can't get the hang of flight bookings! Should l have been up at dawn to book a flight at a good price?
We are limited to 2 flights out of Gatwick that allow us to connect with the transfer at 2.0 ish. No flights elshwhere seems to help?
Don't think we have any choice but...

The way that EasyJet's pricing works is that they start off at rock bottom when they're first released, but the price of individual flights starts to rise when people book or even (I think) look at specific flights. This is done automatically by their computer system, so the prices can go up within a few minutes, depending on how many people book or look.

So yes, sadly the answer to your question is that if you wanted the best prices, then you had to book as soon as they were released at about 5.30 - 6.00 in the morning on the day they went live. That's why there's always so much speculation and excitement about when the exact release date will be, because people want to get in early for the best prices.

As I said in a previous post, EasyJet had a sale this year and gave refunds for the difference if people had paid more than the price of flights that were on sale, so if EasyJet and Thomson are currently similarly priced, it might still be worth booking with EJ in the hope that your flights will be included in their sale at some point and you can get a refund. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether the refunds were in cash or in the form or time-limited vouchers to be used on another flight. Maybe somebody else could clarify this point?

Refunds are by voucher and generally valid for 6 months. Hope this helps.

OK thank you Elaine and Sue Unhappy

Never mind. Deposit has been paid so the little villa is ours again for 2018.
Will know what to do about flights next year for 2019! Assuming this old fart gets there Big smile

Instead of using an agent next year for the  transfers could we save some money?  I assume we can book the ferry on the day from the office over the road from the Port or is that just for Ileda and not Despina?

Taxis are at the Airport to take us down to the Port. (How much )
Babbis will have our car ready at The New Port.
So the only thing missing is the taxi back to the Airport!
I'm sure someone could arrange that for us like the Suitcase Guy?

Any idea of the taxi cost?

A taxi between the Port and Airport is about €10-€12 and you don't normally have to wait long at the taxi rank just outside the Sette Venti café. Both Illida and Despina have offices just across the road from the port and in June you shouldn't have a problem getting tickets on the day.

Organising your own transfers does save you quite a bit and many people do it year after year without ever having a problem. However, it's not something I'm comfortable doing. Last year the weather forecast for our day of departure was so bad that neither Illida nor Despina were due to run and we were going to have to catch the car ferry that goes to Igoumenitsa and then get another one to Corfu. Later in the evening prior to departure, we were told that if the weather was really bad, the harbourmaster would stop even the car ferry sailing, so we didn't get a lot of sleep that night! Early next morning, we got a phone call asking us to be ready to be picked up within half an hour, as Illida had been cleared to make one early morning run and our rep had managed to get us tickets for it. So the problem was solved for us, but it's definitely not a situation I'd like to have had to deal with ourselves!

Another time there was a taxi strike in Corfu on our departure day and our transfer company organised a minibus to get us from the port to the airport, without which we'd have been forced to haul our luggage to the bus station in Town.

Like I said, plenty of people manage year after year without any problems, but it's up to you to decide and I think it's only fair to point out the possible risks!
