Just read something on Corfu town page about currency- advising just to take small amount out to Corfu?

We normally bring all euro's out with us- what does everyone else think in the current climate?

Hi Fletcher12

Did what you read say take a small amount of currency or to take your currency in small denominations - €5 & €10 notes rather than €50 & €100?  There have been posts about difficulties with travellers cheques and the Greeks being reluctant to take cards.  If you are going soon and usually take euros cash then I would stick with what you usually do.  We are not going until September and are waiting to see what the situation is nearer that time.

Hi Deedee- I think it said, just take a small amount of euros into the country and change English notes on Corfu!
We dont go until June 22nd so lets hope its all settled by then!
Just watched 6pm news and it doesnt look good- but we all know things can change in a couple of weeks, lets hope so.

Because Kalami is so small, would like to know what to do  with our holiday money, its not like their is a bank or anything!

Thanks for your advise Deedee- I always enjoy reading your comments. xx

I think you will find most Greeks will prefer to take sterling notes.
If they hold onto them for a few days before cashing in they may well make some money themselves in the present climate!!!

Correct, no bank, not even an ATM.  There are three tourist offices in Kalami that offer currency exchange and you can also do exchange at reception at the A & A.  The exchange rate on offer in Kalami is not always the same as in the larger resorts.  We wouldn't drive or get the bus to another resort just to change money but if we are visiting one of the larger resorts we'd probably exchange whilst we were there.

Thank you for your kind words re my posts.

Hi all.

Emailed Cosmic travel in Kassipoi last week re exchange rates and was told it was 1.225 and expected to rise. We tend to take about €100 with us, change some in Kalami then the rest in Kassipoi.

Even if the Euro does revert back to the Drachma I don't think it will happen overnight. Hope not anyway!

It was 1.22 (and a bit) in Ramsdens in UK this morning. Forecast is that it will reach 1.30 eventually (within 6 months).

Unfortunately we're flying out next week so think we'll be getting closer to the 1.22 mark.

What am I saying, unfortunately? Won't come a moment too soon!!!

Looking good Bob. Better than the €1.10 we were getting last September.

Alec.
