Sadly, like everywhere, mobile phones are
the rage in Greece. If you bring one with you, then it should log into one of
the local networks. (You may need to tell your phone company before you travel so
they can set this up.)
Mobile phones work nearly
everywhere.
There are also a number of public
pay phones. All villages have them and some shops. They take a phone card which
is available from most supermarkets. You can also make calls from 'Tourist
Offices'. They will use a meter combined with a premium rate to charge you. It
is still not that expensive though. If you plan to phone home, you will need
the following Country code before your number (then remove your first zero of
the area code).
More and more villas are now being provided with telephones,
but you will often find that they are limited to incoming and local calls
only. Calls can often be made at supermarkets and travel shops. You pay at
the end of your call(s) the metered amount. The international dialing code
for the UK is 0044 (don't forget to leave off the first zero of the area STD
code). The code for Greece is 0030
